Has anyone else gotten taller?

I had to have a physical for RN school a couple of weeks ago and when I was measured the nurse said I was 5' 5.25". I told her no, I am 5' 4.5". She measured me again and got the same result of 5' 5.25". I said to her that her guide must be off so we went to another one and again got the same reading. A few days later when I went to my 6 month post op visit I asked for my height to be measured, and like at the other doctor's office I measured 5' 5.25". So it seems that I grew .75 inches! Has anyone else grown since losing weight?

Hi Elizabeth!! Can't say getting taller has happened for me. I was 5'4.5" when I was thin (20 years ago), I was 5'4.5" when I was fat...and I'm still 5'4.5". I WISH I would get a little taller though....must be why I'm always wearing heels now that it doesn't hurt to wear them anymore.... Congrats on RN school. Good luck with it. I'm hoping to start Fall 2008. Susan

I know that for me, when I was overweight, it was all I could do to stand as tall as I could. Now that you've lost some weight, maybe your shoulders can go back more and you actually can stand taller and prouder Way to Go on the extra 3/4 inch gain Be glad it's not weight lol Molly

Are you as distubed by this as I am? I have been 5' my entire adult life. I was measured by the endocrinologist's office and they told me 5'1". I said no way. I asked to be measured again at another doctor's office. It said I am 5' 1". Where and when did I grow????? For some strange reason, I don't like being 5' 1". I want to be 5' again.

I actually asked the surgeon about this one. He had one very simple answer. You are standing up taller now. Now that the weight is gone we are no longer hunched over like a goon and we are standing up tall. I have done the same things. It is all about the way we are standing now. Hope that helps. Enjoy the height though! Hugs, Melissa

One glitch to the answer- I wasn't heavy and stopped over when i was in my 20, 30 even though I thought I was.

Melissa beat me to my response I agree that it's in the way you're carrying yourself...less to weigh down your body and your confidence...cool, huh? Lisa

YUP! The thinner I get the less poundage I carry therefore it makes sense that I am able to stand taller as I am not being "weighed" down so much by the pounds. Congrats on growing lol Felicia =0)

Not uncommon. Excess weight causes your spine to compress. That's why so many obese people have disc issues. When the weight is gone the discs can expand and you will "grow" taller. Congratulations! It helps to have the added height when figuring your BMI. Annette
