B-12 shot etc...

I had to go to my PCP yesterday for my B-12 ahot as DVR's office called at the last minute to inform me they are no longer giving them in the office. It was explained to me later that insurance doesn't want to cover it if you haven't seen the doctor. They did tell me that they will give me a script to do it myself, if I prefer. My PCP doesn't seem to comprehend that this is a monthly for life deal. He told me I could maybe get it every 2 months instead. I told him I want it at least monthly until my wl stabilizes. I'll get the self-administer script from DVR's office. I don't want to deal with begging for it as well as taking off work one day a month for a shot. Anyway, I told him how I was doing. I also told him how some old aches and pains have actually gotten worse. My ex-husband hit me with a car back in 1993. The doctors could never find why I was in so much pain. They started to attribute my pain in my hip and shoulder to my weight. There was also some suggestion that I was addicted to pain meds because I still needed them for my pain. (You bet I wrote a blasting letter to my doctor about that one.) As time went on, I learned to live with my pain. My PCP examined my shoulder and hip suggesting I may have some tendonitis. He also sent me for an x-ray. X-ray results show I have a chipped bone in my shoulder. I wanted to glare back at all of those doctors with an " I told you so!" tune. I will need to make an appointment with a surgeon to determine how this shall be treated. I hope everyone enjoys their Friday and weekend.

OMG WOW. I am so sorry you are still hurting 1st off. That just plane stinks. I know what you mean with the pain meds. I am still on them but it is me that is worried that I will be addicted to them. Not taking them for a few days just to make sure. Anywho I am glad that you can do the shot for yourself. It is really not as bad as some would think. I have to do a shot everyday now and I was worried about it but it is way overworked when you really do it. I am sure you will do fine. I agree that it will be much better than you having to fight for your energy every month. I wish PCP's would get on the ball and learn about WLS. ESPECIALLY when they have patients that have had it. Pick a dang book up and read it SHEESH! I so hope that you can get your shoulder fixed. It sounds like it is no fun at all. Just goes to show that they will blame anything on your weight but now we are not giving them that option! HA to them! I hope your pain gets better soon. Can you take anything for it? Keep us updated. Big Hugs, Melissa

I'm so sorry about your shoulder, but so happy that they found the reason for your pain! I'm considering the self administration as well. While my PCP is easy going about giving me the shot - she is no longer local to me now that I have moved. Before the move I was able to just pop in once a month on my way to work (before the doctor had even arrived) and the nurse would give me the shot. Now I would have to take time off of work and travel 30 min to and 30 min back for it. I'm trying out the sub-linguals for a month to see if they do the trick, if not I'll call Dr. VR's office for the prescription to do the shots myself.

Sorry to hear that Aime - but atleast now you will finally get some relief hopefully! My pcp just wrote me my 1st script (3month supply) for B12 self-administered! I told her there's no way I can come see her every month for the rest of my life! We agreed that I'd go see her every 2-3 months! I'm not crazy about having to give myself a shot, but it's so worth not having to sit in their office all for a measly 2 second shot! Plus, she's going on maternity leave by the end of the summer and I dont want to have to see any of the other docs in the ofc while she's gone!

I hope they find something for your pain Aime. That is just awful that you are suffering. I am no help on the B12. I am one of the ones that absorbs it super well lol. I actually had a HIGH B12 reading on my last lab work lol go figure. Anyways with that I hope you can get a prescription to do them yourself then you wont have to mess with the Dr.s at all. Keep us posted!! Felicia =0)

Aime, Sorry you are still having so much pain. Thank goodness they FINALLY figured out why. I'm with you, all those docs need not only a tune, but a whole Broadway production of "I told you so!!" Hope you are able to do the shots and everything is cared for soon. Hugs to you, Susan
