Am I average or have I stopped?
Hello everyone. My name is Lesley and I have a few questions that I am hoping you can help me with. I had my surgery oct 18n 2006 and my weight was 351 I lost 80lbs really quick in about 3 1/2 months right now I am 272 and this is where I have been at for about 2 1/2 months and the scale has not moved! I can eat about a cup of food now and this scares me can everyone eat this much at 6 months out? I am not behaving exactly like I should be but I know I am not being this bad. Could I be done already?
Lesley...
Hi Lesley,
First off remember that we all lose at different rates. No two people are exactly alike. With that said, I am all the time compairing myself to others and that will only lead to discouragement.
Try tracking every single bite of food. Fitday is a great place. It will show you how many calories etc. You might be surprised to see that you are actually eating a lot more than you thought. I know I was! After you have tracked for a while maybe take the results to your NUT or PCP, they can help you find areas to work on, if you need help.
There is a post on the Ontario board with lots of great tips and ideas to help to keep us on track. I just printed for myself.
Good luck,
Tara
Hi Lesley!!
Wanted to say WELCOME to the board. Please come back often and post!!
Just wanted to say I agree with Tara. It's hard when you compare yourself with other people as we are all individuals and lose and different rates. No two people are going to have the same experience - and what works for one may not work for another.
That being said....No, I don't eat a cup of food yet....unless it's soup, which is mostly liquid anyway. I can manage about 4 oz at a meal and that is about it. My best advice is to track every bite you put in your mouth. Sometimes it's not the amount, but WHAT you are eating. A cup of green salad with fat free dressing or a cup of broth is very different from a cup of lasagna. (just an example) I think it's important to keep track of amounts, calories, fat, carbs and protein...and even liquids. Over the months, I've found the "recipe" that works for me to keep the scales steadily going down. Granted it's not as fast as in the beginning, but they are still moving. When they stall, now I know what to do to jump start the loss again. It was trial and error, but having the food log in Fitday helped me see trends and learn what works for me personally.
Also, EXERCISE and WATER!! Gotta gotta gotta do it. Drink as much water as you can every day. I shoot for a minimum of 80 oz per day. More when I can. And, exercise is key! If you aren't exercising, start. If you are, mix it up - do something different. It should help.
Hope this was of some benefit to you. If you have any questions or want more thorough explanations, just let me know!
Good luck!!!
Susan
I think your average. I lost like crazy for 6 months then NADA. For the last 3 weeks I have been stuck at the same weight no matter what changes I make in my routine. I think its just part of the deal. I would hang in there... Odds are with you to keep losing not stop losing totally. What has your surgeon or NUT said about your stall? Oh and depending on the food YES I can eat a cup of food easily. If its pure meat then no I am still around 2 ounces for that but salad and cooked veggies etc.. watch out I can eeeeeeeeatttt lol.
Hang in there!!

I haven't lost a pound in about 2 months. I have slimmed down considerably though. My bosy is starting to look presentable again. It is apparently normal to stall big time around 6 months. I know that I really need to measure myself. I haven't done it regularly like others. I can tell I have lost inches the way my clothes feel.
Keep the faith.
Hi Lesley
i started out at 357, and have lost about 97 so far.
my weightloss wasnt as swift as yours, the first month was a lot, then it evened out to 8-9 lbs a month, which i am still cruising along with. i notice nowadays that i will loose 4 lbs, then stall for about two weeks, then loose 3, 2 or even 1 lbs, etc.
before my period i am permanently hungry, so when i eat, i wait 30 minutes for my tummy to clear out a bit then i eat some more, as i am afraid of stretching my pouch.
i too can eat a cup of food, but it depends largely on what it is. steak fills me up real quickly, but i can drink a cup of soup and nibble some dry health biscuits still.
i am a grazer, so i have to watch my amounts. i try to keep healthy low fat, low carb stuff in the house, in case i go overboard
some people still loose after two years ... who knows, you can be one of them, Lesley!
