A rough week

Well, this has been a rough week for me so far. I started out Monday night having these very sharp pains in my right side and lower ab area. I couldn't walk without doubling over. Keep in mind I am at work during all this. When I sat down or kept still I was fine. I made it through my shift and got home. My husband at the hospital with his mom who had a stroke last week, so I am home alone. I thought a good day's sleep and some rest and I would be okay. Well, got up from about 8 hours sleep and the pain seemed to be okay. Got ready for work and went on. By the time I got there, the pain had come back and hard. I was at work for about 2 hours when my co-worker convinced me to go to the ER. This was about 9 pm. After several tests and IV fluids, I was admitted about 6am. I ended up spending the day in a hospital bed. The end result was intestinal virus. I have my doubts, but at least I am home now. The pain has not returned, so hopefully it is gone for good. I never knew a virus could cause so much pain. I am still weak from the ordeal, but getting better. I have to get better, my son is coming down from Nashville this weekend. He has a weekend of events planned for us! Thanks for letting me bore you guys with my story. LOL Love and hugs, Sherry

OH, Sherry!!! So sorry to hear about your ordeal. That really stinks that you were in so much pain. Atleast is was just an intestinal virus and nothing worse. I hope the pain stays away and that you get back your energy before your son gets home. Take care and get some more rest. Get better!!! Hugs, Tabby

Sherry, Sorry to hear about your week. I hope it turns around in time for your visit with your son. Did they check your gall bladder? Because what you are describing is almost what happened to me when my gall bladder went crazy. Here is a post of a gall bladder attack. Gallbladder Attack Symptoms Most gallbladder symptoms are due to the formation of gallstones (cholelithiasis). Symptoms of gall stones or signs and symptoms of gall bladder attacks, are the result of a gall stone obstructing the cystic duct. This obstruction can produce severe gall bladder symptoms and pain. Thirty percent of the population has gall stones, with no symptoms or pain until a stone produces a blockage within the cystic duct. Once a blockage occurs, there is a risk of infection. Here are the symptoms... * Acute onset of fever. * Pain in the right upper abdomen, under or below the rib cage. * Ingestion of fatty foods that produce pain in the abdominal area may indicate a chronic problem. * Mild Jaundice (may be noticed in the whites of the eyes). * Enlarged and tender area detected upon palpation just to the right below the rib cage. * Vague abdominal pain possible with chronic gall bladder conditions. Gall bladder cancer is rare in the United States, affecting approximately only 1% of the population. Of this small percentage, about 80% of gall bladder cancer is associated with gall stones. Gall stones are usually the result of an unhealthy liver that is producing toxic bile. The gall bladder is a fairly simple organ (holding sack) which stores bile that trickles from your liver until it is needed for fat digestion. After you eat fatty foods, the gall bladder contracts to push out the bile into your small intestine for the breakdown of these fats. Removal of your gall bladder is not recommended unless absolutely necessary, and should be considered only as a last resort. The presence of gall stones indicate a poor diet and/or poor digestion, a toxic congested liver, and a need for detoxification of your entire body.

Susan, Thanks for all of the info. But, it wasn't my gallbladder. I had it removed in 1986. This info was great though, because my son had the WLS in January and I am sure he will have problems with his sooner or later. I hope not, but that tends to be the case with WLS patients. Thanks again. Love and hugs, Sherry

Hi Sherry I have had the same problem a few times. I had my gallbladder removed in 96 but the surgeon left a stump. The doctors told me that the stump can cause the same problems as having the gallbladder and that the only way to fix it is to have another surgery. They discovered my problem through ultra sound. I really hope this isn't you problem and that it was only the virus. Take care Tara
