Well....it was an interesting visit with my doctor. I , apparently, have hypothyroidism, which means my thyroid isn't functioning properly....What's crazy is, this condition, untreated can cause me to GAIN weight! YIKES!! So, the doc is going to do an ultrasound on my thyroid to make sure there's nothing there (nodules, etc) causing the function to decrease. He didn't feel anything, but said that's not always an indication of what's there. The U/S is scheduled for May 2. He also prescribed a synthetic hormone for me to start taking tomorrow. I have to go for labs in two weeks to make sure the TSH levels have gone back down to normal. And, I go back to see my doc on May 16th to get the results from the U/S and labs. So, that's all I know for now. I'm hoping the hormone works so I will get my energy back again. I get tired very easily. Susan

Hmmm.. remember when it was the fashion to blame weight gain on the thyroid. I am glad that your doctor is proactive in treating you. I know you will feel bettr very soon. Hugs, Aime

Yup, I remember that too Aime. Especially as the doctors continually thought there had to be something wrong with mine and kept testing me. I did diet after diet, exercised, and kept gaining weight. Have the surgery, lose 90 pounds and NOW the darn thing acts up. UGH!!!!! Oh well...at least it was caught early. I just hope the meds help my energy come back up soon. It's so hard trying to do all the things that need to be done when I feel so tired. Susan

Aw, Susan. Sorry to hear about the hyperthyrodism. I hope that the hormones help and that you are feeling better soon. Will the hormones help with the weight gain? I'll be praying that everything is going to be ok for you. I guess it will be a while before you know anything more. Hang in there and keep us posted on what you hear. Hugs, Tabby

Hey Tabby, I hope it helps too. The doctor said it will take a couple of weeks for everything to start straightening out in my system. I go back to see him in a month to make sure all is working correctly. Oh...just FYI...there are two conditions - hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Hypo is where the function is decreased and is what I have, causes weight gain, tiredness, etc. Hyper is where it's overactive, causes weight loss, insomnia, excess energy....Wouldn't you know I'd end up with the one that makes you GAIN weight... Oh well, with meds it will be controlled and I won't have to worry about it, I hope. Susan

Thanks Patti, I'll be glad when the meds kick in and I'm back to the level of energy I was at a while back. I'm not as bad as I was - energy wise - prior to surgery, but there has definitely been a decrease. Susan

Susan, Sorry to hear about your thyroid. I just got my blood work back and my thyroid levels aren't right either they are too low and they need to do more testing. I was glad to hear that everything else was good excpet for my Iron being low as well. I get to decrease my B-12 and Vit D in half which is nice. I was concerned because when my gall Baldder went crazy my levels were off really bad. Wishing you the best of luck in getting everything under control. Susan
