How To Measure For Bras
I finally figured out how to measure myself recently. You have to wear a bra when you measure because the girls will be too low to get a proper measurement otherwise.
Here are the directions by Playtex:
While standing, wearing a bra, place a measuring tape around the diaphram (under the bust, at the bottom band of bra) . If this totals an uneven number, round up to the next higher even number.
Second, find the cup size:
Place the measuring tape around the fullest part of the bust. Compare this measurement to body size to determine cup size as follows:
If bust measurement is:
Up to 1 inch larger=A Cup
Up to 2 inches larger=B Cup
Up to 3 inches larger=C Cup
Up to 4 inches larger=D Cup
Up to 5 inches larger=DD Cup
Up to 6 inches larger=DDD Cup
For instance, I measured 41 rounded up to 42
my bust measurement is 47= 5 inches difference
I need to purchase a 42 DD bra.
I hope this works for everyone since I've been lost for the last 4 months drowning in poor fitting bras.
OK Jenn now what! I measured taking my measurements this morning and I am a 38 and a 48! YIKES OK can you lead me to the place where you found the instructions to see what maybe it says about those sizes. I know I have gone down a little but there are 10 inches there so I am a little lost. HELP!!! I would give anything to lose more in the chest but it is just not going .
HELP!!!

Melissa, just keep adding a letter for ea*****h.
Ok, here is the proper way to measure (forgot to add the 5 inches, see below):
Determining your Bra/Band size
(ribcage circumference measurement)
1. Measure around the chest directly under the breast at a constant height with the cloth measuring tape. Add 5 inches to that measurement. This dimension is your bra/band size (If the bra size works out to an ODD number go up one inch to the next EVEN number.) This should equal the circumference around the chest, directly above the breasts/under the arms.
2. Now measure around the chest at the height of the fullest part of the breast. The measuring tape should be held horizontal, flat on your back, and your arms should be down. Make a note of that measurement (only used for comparison) and compare it to the Bra Size from step 1.
Determining your Cup size
(projection of breasts from chest wall)
3. To determine the proper Cup Size, find the difference between step 2 and step 1 (step 2 - step 1.) Use the chart below to determine your Cup Size.
Half inch AA cup
One inch A cup
Two inches B cup
Three inches C cup
Four inches D cup
Five inches DD or E cup
Six inches F cup
Seven inches G cup
Eight inches H cup
Nine inches I cup
10 inches J cup
Example:
Step 1: Underbust measurement is 37". Add 5 inches. Bra Size is 42.
Step 2: Full bust measurement is 45".
Step 3: 45 - 42 = 3" difference. Cup size is C.
Result: Buy a 42C bra.
I don't know if this helps at all. Now I've confused myself.
Also, I just found these tips on line.
* Try to get someone to take the measurements for you - your posture will be more relaxed and natural. The measurements should be more accurate.
* Stand up straight and breathe normally
* Don't measure over the top of clothing
* Wear the bra you feel most comfortable in
* Use a cloth tape measure if possible. Note: Older flexible tape measures can sometimes stretch and distort over time.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! YOU are awesome! That did help. I am going to HAVE to get new bras. Mine are ...well lets just not go there on how old they are. I have a few that are newer but they are 44 HH and they are just too big. Not that I am not saggy enough alone let alone not having something to hold them up where they are supposed to be! So I am really down to 1 bra that works for me. I will def be getting some new ones. You are awesome....this is sooooo what we needed!
Gih Hugs,

Ok....can anyone help me out with some .....uh....different issues???
1st my girls are 2 different sizes. the left is about a cup size smaller than the right. I typically buy formed cup bras that fit the right one and evens out the look even though the left one is floating iin its cup.
2nd. I have an issue with back fat....My band alwats rests under the rolls so that measurement is usually correct there but when I try to measure around the fullest part of my breast, the back fat gets in the way and the measurement says I am quite a few cup sizes bigger than I am....
Anyone else dealt with this before? Any tips for me? I just want a bra that doesn't ride up over my boobs when I raise my arms!!! It is so embarassing to look like you have 2 pair cause the formed cups are above your boobs!
