Types of Surgery
Hi Evelyn!!
I'm another RNY-er. It was the only WLS my insurance approved, which was okay by me and it was the one I wanted. I really don't know much about the VSG, but would love to learn more from you!!! IMHO, it doesn't matter which path we take back to health....it's that we are taking the journey!!
Glad you are here and sharing your journey with us!!
Susan
Thanks for the welcome. When my surgeon said that I didn't have much to lose (a lightweight!) I could have hugged him. Now I am used to being called a lightweight. It will be interesting to see the challenges and triumphs of this group, as I suspect they are simliar to the the VSG'ers. For those of you who were not aware of the VSG (my surgeon told me about it - I went in thinking I would have a RNY) there is no malabsorption component. In essence, they just cut off the big outer curvature of my stomach, leaving me with a small banana-shaped stomach. We can't eat large volumes, and we feel satisfied with less. In time, the habits of eating less and exercising more will be hard-wired into our systems for maintenance. That's the plan, and I know people with 5 years of success - so here's hoping that is how it will work for me!
