medications...
hi all,
i know i have seen this posted before, but i went back over 20 pages and i can't find a repost of it. does anyone have the list of either "allowed" or "not allowed" medications handy. i would love to see it.
i know that we can not take nsaids, but i forget the rule about aspirin because i never took it. i don't think we can. my pcp phoned in a script for me today, and although she said she was calling in "fioricet", i got "fiorinal". the only difference in the two is that the "al" is aspirin, and the "cet" is acetominophen. i have a feeling that i am supposed to have the "cet".
if anyone has any info. i would appreciate it .
thanks in advance,
patricia
Patricia,
This is what i found on a web page by Dr's from Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco. I just went looking as I could not find my paper work (can not find anything as we are moving) and I thought I remembered that aspirin was a no-no.
I tell my patients that they should not take Motrin, ibuprofen, aleve, aspirin etc after the surgery because it increases the chances for ulcer. Tylenol is OK and celebrex or vioxx in limited amounts
I hope this helps and hopefully you can talk to maybe the Dr. on call and they can call in the correct prescription for you. I am all for voting that PCP's should HAVE to take a course on RNY if they are going to recommend it for patients. I have been prescribed (or at least they have tried to) many things that we can not take not only by my PCP but the ER as well. They just do NOT get it!
Try and feel better.
Big Hugs,
Melissa
thanks melissa,
my pharmacy sent out the fioricet... i called them and they said that they were the ones that made the mistake. i love my pharmacy (family owned and operated), and this is probably the first time in the 23 years that i have used them that they have made an error. thank goodness it wasn't too serious. he called me back to tell me that he would mark my chart that i couldn't have asprin or nsaids.
anyway, i am hoping that a couple of doses won't really hurt anything, and since i think the reason is that asprin causes ulcers, i think it would have to be over at least a short period of time.
thanks for caring,
patricia
Patricis,
I had asked the last time I was in as the Dr. was wanting to give me an anti-inflamatory so I asked the surgeon. She said that the ones that we can not have are kindof like an acid sitting in the pouch. She said that if I ever HAD to take one make sure that it was VERY short term and they put what was called a PPI with it which is like a buffer. I am glad they brought you the right one. We are moving to a small town and I am hoping to find a smaller pharmacy that can handle that type of care. I miss that from CO.
I hope you are on your way to feeling better,
Melissa
Actually, I do have the list lol. But, as always, ask your surgeon to be sure. I am not sure the accuracy of this list anymore.
