Ok since we have all had WLS back in October.....Have any of you had back pain at all??? My back is so in pain I can't stand it any more!!! My pain is in the middle right side and really hurts!!! I was told before that I am using new muscles to support with and need to strengthen them. I have tried exercising them and I am in more pain than ever now. I was just wondering if anyone had this pain and what they did to help it. I am using the heating pad every chance I get. The pain seems to go away when I lay down in bed to sleep but heck I can't stay in bed all the time!!! Help....Thanks so much!!! Hugs Judy

Judy, I did have back problems, think it started about six weeks after surgery, lasted for a month. Someone had told me the same thing, that it's the muscles readjusting. They were right, it did eventually go away. Marie

Hey Judy, My back too has started to hurt in the last couple of weeks. I think cuz my tummy is so heavy and my back and top half is so small now?? Hard to hold it up.. I never had back problems until after surgery.. Now it seems to be getting worse.. Even more reason for my Ins to approve a TT.. right?? I dont know what to do either to help.. Hopefully like you said our muscles will get stronger and it will subside.. Hang in there. We are all in this together!! Luvs and Hugs! Tiff

This is so crazy that I am in this much pain...I can't wait to see my dr at mmpc next month to see if everything is ok with my back and if they have any other suggestions for me to take the pain away. I know exercise doesn't help it at all right now. Thanks!! Hugs Judy

Yes. My director told me today that I need to sit up. She said before when I was heavier it didn't look so bad, but now I look like a little old lady all huddled over. A.

Judy, I so sympathize. I've dealt with back pain since my 20s and with sciatica for about eleven years. I once threatened to walk in front of traffic if the e.r. I was in made me leave without making the pain go away...and I meant it! I've had more pain lately than I've had in awhile. When it gets really bad and I can't sleep, I take a percoset. Usually, though, I try to deal with it without meds. Can you get a massage? Deep tissue is great for lower back pain. Water exercise is great. It's so much easier to work those muscles in water. You might want to schedule a session with a good trainer, to make sure you are using the muscles correctly and not doing yourself any further damage. I think it's more important to exercise consistently than to do so strenuously...get the muscles accustomed to regular movement. Also, try to be aware of posture. I am more comfortable when I sit up straight and pull my abdominal muscles in. Strengthening the abs, by the way, will take pressure off your back. Don't put off seeing your doc. Back pain can ruin your life if it gets out of hand. If you need to take meds now, take them, and maybe your doc can prescribe a few sessions with a physical therapist. Best of luck. Lisa

Judy, Sorry to hear you are in sooo much pain!! I hope it is getting a little better by now. My biggest problem with my back was before surgery as that is what drove me to have the WLS. Everything I did....it hurt. The only time it bothers me now is when we have bad weather coming....then I really feel it. My regular doctor gave me Lortab for the pain. It really helped. Have you done anything to your back lately??? When I fell at work it took 2 months before I felt the effects of 3 torn disc. I wish you the best with this problem....I truly feel for you my friend. I think you need to go see the doctor and let him give you something for it. Good Luck!!! Lisa S

Hi Judy Sorry to hear about your pain - I am a veteran sciatica sufferer, so I can sympathize. Actually, prior to surgery, my pcp warned me that it is very common to have sciatic flair ups after surgery, due to the weight shifting and different sleeping patterns. Lucky for me, this has not happened thus far; but I have had a sore back on occasion. Take care! Michelle
