Hello all. I was just wondering about something and was not sure about it. Will we be needing to get the same amount of protein in the rest of our life or is this just for the first 6 months or year? Also will we be on the same vitamin supplements for the rest of our life? I know things change with our blood and we need to add things here or there but will I only be able to take chewable vitamins for the rest of my life? I wonder about that as before I used to take 4 Tylenol at a shot. Now I take 2 and it works quite well, so it seems like my system absorbs that, why can't it absorb then a swallow type vitamin. Just something I have been curious about and though I would ask you guys. Thanks bunches for any input.........Gay

Actually, I think we can now take vitamins in pill form. You won't have to do the chewables for life. We do have to take the vitamins for life, however. Aime

Hi Gay... As for taking the vitamins and supplements for the rest of our lives....that's a big YES! We will have to do that. However, I think you can change to regular pills. I am waiting till I see my surgeon in April before I do that though. Just to make sure. Those multivitamins are HUGE so I'm not sure how easy it is for our systems to break them down and absorb at this point. As for the protein, from what I understand, we will need to get that amount daily forever. It's something we will always need. Hope that helps. Susan

HI GAY, FROM ALL I'VE LEARNED FROM INVESTIGATING ON MY OWN, MY SURGEON AND THE DOCTORS I WORK WITH THE ANSWER TO THE PROTEIN QUESTION IS YES, PROTEIN WILL ALWAYS BE THE FIRST THING WE NEED TO PUT IN OUR MOUTHS IF WE KNOW WAHT'S GOOD FOR US, AND WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT 60gms IS NOT ALL THAT MUCH. WE WILL ALSO NEED TO CONTINUE W/ THE VITS FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. REMEMBER WE MALABSORB, MEANING WE DON'T ABSORB ALL THE NUTRIENTS WE ACTUALLY NEED THUS THE SUPPLIMENTAL VITS. I'M SURPRISED YOU DR. HASN'T ALREADY ADVISED YOU TO TAKE THE VITS IN PILL FORM. I'VE BEEN TAKING THE PILL FORM SINCE POST-OP WEEK 4. I USE VISTA VITAMINS, THEY'RE A LITTLE EXPENSIVE BUT ARE ALL INCLUSIVE, I DON'T TAKE A SEPERATE CALCIUM PILL. I GET THEM AT VISTAVITAMIN. COM. THE PACKAGE ADVISES YOU TO TAKE TWO SMALL PACKAGES A DAY W/ EACH PACKAGE CONTAINING 4 PILLS. I ONLY TAKE 1 PACKAGE DAILY, 2 PILLS IN THE AM AND 2 IN THE PM. ALL MY LAB WORK HAS BEEN GREAT SO FAR. HOPE THIS HELPS, DONNA, SFY

As you can see, it is yes on everything for the rest of our lives. I have been taking reg. pills since I think either the 6 or 8 week post op visit. I was never sooooo glad to get rid of those darn chewables in all my life. I didn't even finish the bottles...as soon as the green light was given that was it for me...I went straight to the store and bought all the pills I needed and said "bye-bye" to the chewables. Here is what I take everyday.... 1-Equate (Wal-Mart brand) Complete Multivitamin w/Lycopene 1-Boitin 5000mg 1-B-50 1-B-6 1-Vitron-C w/ vit C (Iron) 2-Citracal (Calcuim) 1- B12 shot every 3-4 weeks And at least 90 grams of Protein (sometimes more) I need to add fiber pills in there somewhere's but haven't. I try to eat popcorn or apples to help the problem. The B-50 and B-6 is for energy and metabolism. I feel much better since I have been taking them. Every morning I take everything except for my Calcuim (after supper). I call it my "Good-morning ****tail" a long with my Lexapro for depression. I guess this is what I have to look forward to for the rest of my life and I feel it it well worth it since I now think the future is much brighter since I am lighter now and don't have the aches and pains that my lard ass was causing Lisa S

Hi Gay...I am getting in 60-80 grams of protein or more which I believe I have to do the rest of my life...Also I have been taking the huge pre-natal vitamin since about 3rd week out. I don't cru**** or cut it in half I swallow it whole and have no trouble at all. Hope that helped you...Hugs Judy

Thanks so much for the input. I will be asking my doctor about being able to take the regular vitamins when I go next month for my 6 month check up. I have no trouble swallowing pills so it would just be the matter of absorbtion. I don't mind the chewables but it would be more convienient to take the regular ones. Well, have a good one. Thanks again.....Gay
