News about Deanne

Hi everyone... I just got off the phone with Deanne. She did not have good news back from the doctors. They told her she has colon cancer. She will be having surgery tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 10:30 Central time and asks that those who pray, please do so...and for those who don't, send out good thoughts and vibes for her. She can use all the positive support she can get right now to battle this. The surgery will probably be about 4 hours long. The doctor told her that her weight loss will have to be put on a back burner for a while as she is healing from the surgery and then as they decide what plan to take to make sure she is cancer free. At present they don't know how extensive it is and won't know until tomorrow when they do surgery. They won't know the stage it's in for a few days - pathology takes time to get results back to the doctors. She said she expects to be in the hospital for at least another week, maybe longer depending on how things go. They will be checking her lymph nodes and everything else. Oh...and the doctor said he doesn't know how big the incision will have to be, but it could be from her ribs down to the pubic bone. So, she's having to prepare for that also.... She's doing her best to stay positive about everything and has an amazing attitude. She said her husband is being so supportive....very wonderful and just what she needs right now. She misses everyone and was asking about you all when we talked. So, send some love her way. She needs it right now. I'm planning to call her back later (dinner is in progress and had to be rescued) tonight and chat for a bit more. But, I wanted to let you all know as soon as I could. I'm going to try and get the hospital's address so we can send cards to her....or maybe just send them to her home address and let her hubby take them to the hospital for her to read. When I get the info, I'll pass it along to those who want to send something to her also. Sorry this is so fragmented, but that's the way my thoughts are right now. I'm still in shock.... Susan

Hey Donna... Go ahead and give her a call. I know she would love to talk with you. She mentioned your call this morning....she was having blood drawn when the phone rang, so she couldn't answer. Susan

Susan, WOW ..that is all I can think of to say. My thoughts and prayers def go out to her and her family. Thank you so much for passing along our well wishes and love to her. I am so glad she is staying positive. I have recently delt with cancer and a positive attitude is a lot of the battle believe me. In thinking about cards and such let me know what you think about getting together as a board and sending her flowers. If one person has a paypal account and is willing to collect the $ from others we could send her something bright and cheery. Let me know. Paypal is easy as could be to send $ to someone. Thank you again and again please let her know we are thinking of her. Love and hugs, Melissa

Oh my goodness!!!! I never even thought it could ever be anything like cancer. I think I am in shock as well! My aunt had colon cancer many many years ago and did fine. My grandmother on my mothers side had it and died a few days after surgery because the idoits at the hospital left her sitting on the port-a-potty for about an hour and told her if she want to go home then she had to have a bowel movement. Poor thing straided too hard and busted something and died the next day from septic shock. I am scared to death that I am going to get it because I have it on both sides of the family. My parents have test every year for it and so far so good. Now that I am turning 40 this year I need to start getting tested as well. My heart goes out to Deanne...she is in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much Susan for letting us know!!! Please keep us posted!!! Lisa S. *sprinkling lots of love and prayers out for Deanne*
