A Little Concerned with Intake
JUST WONDERING IF ANY OF YOU ARE CONCERNED AS I AM ABOUT YOUR PORTION INTAKE.
I'VE NOTICED THIS PAST WEEK I'VE BEEN ABLE TO EAT MORE THAN I HAVE IN THE PAST. I REALIZE OUR BS (SHORT FOR BABY STOMACH) DO STRETCH ALITTLE, BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WOULD BE THIS SOON.
I'LL GIVE AN EXAMPLE:
TWO WEEKS AGO I COULD ONLY TOLERATE 1/2 CUP OF SPECIAL K PROTEIN CEREAL W/ 1/2 CUP OF MILK FOR BREAKFAST.
FOR LUNCH I COULD ONLY EAT 1/4 OF A THIN CRUST DEGIORNO LOADED PIZZA.
TODAY I HAD 3/4 OF A CUP OF CEREAL AND I WAS ABLE TO EAT 1/2 OF THE SAME PIZZA.
HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED THIS HAPPENING TO THEM? IF SO ARE YOU AS CONCERNED AS I AM? AND WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO ABOUT IT?
I FEEL AS THOUGH THIS IS GOING TO LEAD TO FAILURE.
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP
THANKS,
DONNA, SFY
Yup! I can eat a LOT more then I used to. I combat it by having planned snacks and meals. That's why I felt so strongly about falling off the tracking wagon last week. As I know that I stick to what I am supposed to be eating if I have a plan. Of course also it depends on the food. I can eat and eat and eat and eat soft mushy type foods ( just sat here and inhaled 2.5 oz of muenster cheese lol). But I portioned it out and new when it was gone it was gone till snack time or dinner time or what ever is coming up next lol. Makes it easier to fight any head hunger or head cravings I might have if my wittle ole brain knows that more is coming if its just patient lol.
I wouldn't worry about it as long as you "SEE" it you should be fine. If you stay in control of IT instead of letting IT control you there should be no "failure". Make sense?
Chin up!! I am sure you are doing awesome!! And remember the best way to counter size changes and munchies and well just about everything is protein protein protein. It fills ya up fast!
I am so not even going to mention the pizza though *gives the evil eye*
*HUGS and Much love*

I have had the same fear. Sometimes I feel like I am eating a LOT and I get stressed about stretching my pouch. Then at the next meal I can't even eat 1/2 cup of something. I think a lot of it has to do with the consistency of the food, the amount of hydration in your system, and the time it takes to eat.
Have you tried the cottage cheese test? Don't drink for 30-45 minutes then start with a cup of cottage cheese and eat as quickly as you can until you are full. Measure the leftover cottage cheese and you can tell how large your pouch is from what you were able to eat.
I haven't tried it yet...but I just might. But considering that for most of us before surgery our stomachs were most likely the size of a 2 liter soda bottle...we are miles ahead of where we were. Try as hard as you like, you're not going to stretch that little pouch that much.

I've noticed the same thing. Some days it's all I can do to eat 1/2 the meat out of a lean cuisine. Other days, like today, I gobble up the meat and all the veggies and finish the entire thing. I spoke to a friend about it - she is a nurse and had WLS 3 years ago - she's my BEST resource.
She also suggested that I COULD do the cottage cheese test if I felt I needed to - but assured me that this is normal at our stage. She says our bodies will allow us to eat what we need to, somedays it may be more than others, but overall we will not be able to "gorge ourselves" or do any harm. I allow my body to be the guide. I eat my meat first, and if I am still hungry, I move on to the veggies until I feel satisfied (but never full). Ok, thats not true, there have been a couple times where the food was soooo good, I ate a bite or to into the "full" category, but have never felt "stuffed."
Looks like we are having the same "problem" and fears Donna. I've been noticing the same thing here. Some days I just seem to be hungry all day long and can eat way more than I think I should. Then other days I can't seem to eat much at all.
I finally decided it was my body regulating itself. Some days I seem to crave carbs....and am not satisfied until I get them. But, once I eat some, I'm fine. I have decided I'm listening to body and giving it what it needs. Some days I don't need much, other days I need more. This is why I keep track of what I eat, so I know my calorie counts, my protein and my carbs....along with the vitamins and nutrients. It helps me know whether I'm on track or not.

Yep, some days I feel like I can eat all day long and other days I cook a 4 oz peice of fish and can't fini**** I know my nurse said that salads break down to practically nothing when you chew them, so you can eat a lot of it. I know I don't measure everything...practially nothing...but I pretty much know how much things are, so feel comfortable doing that. I am trying to work in snacks throught the day, so I know I am eating my protein and don't get too hungry to overeat at mealtime. Sometimes the food looks, smells and tastes so good that I eat too fast, but never did any damage, I'm sure.
Sounds like we are all in the same boat. If you are concerned, ask your dr about it.
Hugs,
Tabby
