CPAP machines, do you still use one?
Hello there. How many of you use a CPAP machine at night and if so , are you still on it? I had to have a sleep study before my surgery and was on a CPAP prior and they switched me to the BiPap. Now that I weigh less than I did 4 years ago(actually less than I did 25 years ago) when they originally put me on the CPAP I feel like I don't need it anymore and weaned myself off of it. It was a security thing or habit for me but after a couple nights I no longer use it. I am sleeping just as good and am not congested in the mornings like I was when using it. Just wondering if anyone else has done this or if they are going to go to another study to see if they can rid themselves of the machine. Thanks.........Gay
Hey there Gay!
I was on one for about 4 years....and then a while after surgery, I noticed that I was waking up every morning without it on...when before I couldn't sleep without it!! So, I decided to try it without it. Now it's packed in it's case and at the back of my closet!!!! Wish I knew where I could donate it.
I've thought about going in for another test....but I don't really like sleeping at those places...not sure if I even COULD now!!! Before it was NO problem.

I started waking up in the middle of the night with my hubby poking me and realizing that air was just pouring out of my mouth. I talked to my surgeon about it and he had the settings lowered from 13 to 8. It is much better now. He told me that when this pressure gets to be too high to stop using it, that I no longer need it. I am looking forward to that day!!! Its kinda scary though....I have used it for so long and the few nights that I went without it waiting for the settings to be lowered found it REALLY hard to get to sleep. I know that it took time to get used to wearing it and it will take time to get used to not using it. I would NEVER go for another sleep study...that was a traumatizing experience!!!
