Drinking with meals?????
I know right after surgery I was instructed to stop drinking a half hour before I ate and then resume a half hour afterwards. I was just wondering how at this point in our journey you were dealing with fluids and meals. Do you drink with your meals yet or do you still wait until you are done eating? Just wondering what most of us do....Thanks.........Gay
Hi Gay,
I was instructed to do the same thing. I usually don't drink a 1/2 hr. before a meal, but every now and then I take a drink with a meal and I feel horrible!! So, I am still wait 1/2 hr. before and 1/2 hr. after.....I have also found that if I am really really hungry...like when I am cooking dinner....if I take a drink of water or anything...it makes me feel nauseated....

Hiya Gay!
I think we were all instructed to do the same thing. In general drinking with meals is not healthy (for anyone).
I am not as good about not drinking before hand. I may have a sip or two of water while I'm cooking, and at work, I may finish what is left if my water glass before heading off for my lunch break.
However, after the meal I wait the full 30 min. In fact, even The Boy has learned this rule and makes sure that my water glass is no where around at meal time so that I don't "forget"...and when he is done cleaning up after dinner (when I cook, he cleans), he brings the glass back (full) when he notices the 1/2 hour is up. We make a game of "marking the time" when I finish my last forkful. Even my coworkers (whom I eat lunch with) play along with me.
I did not think about the flushing the food out too quickly. I just thought it was all about getting filled up on the liquids instead of eating the food nourishment that we need. I tried drinking while eating Saturday and couldn't do it and was just thinking it was me. This is a tough thing for me as I would always have a big glass of water with my meal before surgery. Now it is drinking all day and not during meals for me. Thanks for the input..........Gay
Patricia, that is so funny making the game of it. When my family gets together for dinner they do the same thing to me. I just automatically set a glass at my place setting and they have to remind me that I should not be drinking with my meal. Then it is "Oh, yeah, I forgot." Sweet that "the Boy" helps you out so much with it. Joe's big thing is to always remind me to chew good. I guess that is the one rule that has stuck in his head. That and the poor guy keeps buying me broth to drink. I drank it the first week after surgery and he still thinks I should be drinking it. In his own weird way, it is cute of him to do it for me. This surgery for sure becomes a family thing. Thanks for sharing.....Gay
