Too Much Protein?
Your not alone in that... I remember when I started all this and i was like YIPPIEEEE my protein shake is 55 grams of protein NOT counting the milk I am SET! Then as I learned more and more I found out that hmmmmmmmmm not so good to take all that in at one time. NOWWWWWWWW with that said body builders take in HUGEEEEEEEE amounts of protein at a time but of course LOL they are doing just a touch more working out then we are *grin*.

LOL Jenn... Looks like you were thinking...Hmmmm, I need to get in more protein and here's an easy way to do it. Don't blame you there. But, I think it would be better to find another way to get in the extra. Maybe a glass of milk once a day?
I've had those moments too and have had to restrain myself at times...

I make my shake and it is a 12 ouncer and ends up with like 60 g of protein per shake. I asked my nutritionist about it, since I have trouble too getting in enough protein if I don't make the shake. Well, she told me that if I drink it slowly and over a period of time, no problem. So I usually am drinking it while on here in the morning and it takes me about an hour to fini**** That way I was told it would all be absorbed. I know it is so confusing. I am glad I was told this was okay as I get it all in and basically over with first thing in the morning. Good luck.....Gay
Gawd I feel so at home herre right now!!! My NUT really is NUTTY too!!! She pulls the same s**t on me!!! I have learned more about nutrition from my little sister who is an ANIMAL science major!! And I have had to educate my Nut too! I have done extensive research on the protein quantity issue as I just can't trust my nut and all my sources say between 30 and 35g at once is the best way to go for us. We want to make sure that we are absorbing all the protein we get in right???? If we get 50 from a shake and can only absorb 35 then we can really only count the 35 towards our daily intake. I have not heard anything that says we can absorb more if sipped over an hour...sorry to burst bubbles and I may be wrong but as far as my research goes....35 is the max I'll take in at once. I dont want this so come off soundin g *****y but I care about you all and would hate for anyone to develop issues because they are not getting as much protein as they think they are. HUGS!!!
I don't think it sounded *****y at all. You basically said the same thing I did on the 30 - 35 g of protein at a time etc... I think a lot of the trouble with the NUTS we are having to use is they are not trained for one thing and what training they do have is not specific enough for use with WLS patients. Mal absorption screws with most of the "norms" we were all taught in "health class" lol. I think that is the hardest part of this whole thing. Learning what, when, where, how long etc.. of so many different things. Before when we went on a "diet" it was follow the package and go for it. If you cheated or fell of no biggie. We don't have that luxury any more and its super hard. Luckily it gets easier every day to get into a routine lol.

Jenn,
I am off the norm here in that I have a great Nut. She is not nutty at all. She hsa told both hubby and I am others no more than 30-35 grms of protein at a time. Anything more than that and it is awash as your body can not process that much at one time and it is a waste and you just pee it out. OK maybe a little too graphic but that is how she put it. When I do a shake I just use one scoop of protein powder (28 grms) and 1 cup of milk (8grms) bringing me up to 36 grms. So I guess I am only peeing out 1 grm My suggestion would be like the others to just cut it back to one scoop. Or maybe even one scoop and then only 1/2 yogurt. Or maybe split the one shake up and split it into two. One mid morning and the other half mid afternoon. Anyway that is my 2 cents. Sounds like we all [retty much do the 30-35 grms at a time. For me with the cost of protein I was veyr happy to only have to use one scoop. Makes it go a lot further on the budget!
Hugs and take care,
Melissa
