My Presidents Day Adventure

Yesterday my fiance (aka "the boy") and I took his nephew to a local family fun place for the afternoon. The place has gokarts and laser tag and bounce rooms, arcades etc. I have been there on corporate and social outings before. I've always attempted the laser tag - but would just hide behind a wall and shoot when given a chance. I have NEVER attempted a gokart. These are some serious machines, low to the ground, large track, small bucket seats etc. Not the thing for a morbidely obese female in their mid-30's. So, in the past, I have sat in the stands and watched the races..... NOT YESTERDAY....I literaly ran to my gokart and slipped right in, the straps snapped into place easily and I had to adjust them to take up the slack as they were too big!!!! There was room to spare in the bucket seat even. I had so much fun, I pushed the pedal to the metal and screamed around the hairpin turns. I had a chance to pass "the boy" and did so, make a quick turn towards him and screamed "waaaahoooo" while giving him the thumbs up sign. He almost crashed from laughing so hard. How many things have we all avoided in life because of our weight? NO MORE!!!!!!!! Oh yes, laser tag was fun as well - they gave us the area to ourselves...just the 3 of us..it's a very large space, lit only with black lights...I ran so much, I don't think I stood still the entire time....The Boy commented on that later last night, he was very impressed. (my score stunk though...I'm not a good shot and apparently his nephew is an ace shot - even at a moving target). I think as the weight comes off I am reverting back to my younger years and doing all the things I wanted to do then that my weight kept me from attempting. I was definately not acting "my age".

Wow patti an amusement park? I can't tell you the last time I went to one. When I did it was the same as you, sit on the side lines and watch everyone else enjoy themselves because I couldn't fit into the seats. Either that or I wouldn't let myself be embarassed by not being able to fit and have everyone watching. I think we're all going to go through a "younger" stage at some point in our journey and who can blame us. Being obese for most of our lives we've missed out on so much fun and adventure that we May go hog wild for a little while. Don't we deserve it? I think so. Keep up the good work. Donna, sfy

Oh my Patricia, you had me laughing so hard with your story of yesterday. That has to be one of the best "WOW" moments I have read. So funny, riding around on the gokarts. Way to go. I can only imagine how excited your fiance and the nephew was seeing you out there having so much fun. I agree with you, the weight has held so many of us back and once it is shed, we revert back to the days when we could do that stuff. I know I can't wait for spring to come so I can get outside and do alot of that fun stuff. I really want to try and get back onto a bicycle. I grew up on one and miss it so much. That and swimming which I have not done for so many years. The amusement park sounds good too. I could not walk them before, much less fit on a ride, but I am hoping by summer time that will all be different. So many wonderful things we have to look forward to in life now. Enjoy all the new experiences waiting for you. You just showed us there is nothing to be afraid of or to not try to attempt. Thanks bunches.......Gay
