I had laproscopic RNY. I chose this surgery because I wanted it to be permanent. I couldn't see putting myself through something this drastic if I wasn't going to commit myself all the way. I spent over 40 years dieting and that's enough for anyone. I am glad I chose this type. I'm doing well with it. Sometimes, I am a bit disappointed because I thought I would lose more in the first three months, because I started out so heavy for my height. Oh, well. I feel great, really, so must be positive. Happy with the surgery. Happy with my hospital and its program. Love my surgeon. Worship my nutritionist. Best to you, Felicia, and many hugs. Lisa

What surgery did you have? LAP RNY Why did you choose that surgery type? While I had considred both and my surgeon does both Lap RNY and Lap Band the thought of a piece of plastic permanently (sp) in my body and having to have the whole fill thing every so often just did not work for me. There was also the thought that if our insurance changed for any reason and we had different insurance would they cover all the fills??? Another big factor was the in June of 06 my husband had LAP RNY as well and I knew how to deal with it and the results of it. Are you happy with your choice or do you wish you had picked a different type? I am 100% happy with the choice that I made. There was only one time when I wished that I had done a different type and that was when we found out that I was pregnant. At that moment I thought man if I had had the band it would just be a matter of unfilling it to support a baby. BUT in the end the OB said that really either way things would be fine so the thought was VERY short. Am I happy with the doctor? Again 100%. He is rated one of the top in the nation and NJ in his field as is aweomse. My husband had him in June and there was no way that I would consider anyone else but him for anything like this. 100% trust and confidence in him. I would and have reccomended him to friends as well as my hubby has to some people at his work who are now starting the process after seeing his success. WE LOVE HIM!!! Hugs, Melissa

What surgery did you have? Lap RNY Why did you choose that surgery type? I chose this surgery because I had known several people that had had it and had success. When I went to meet with the surgeons PA, she told me that the best surgery for me was Lap RNY. I had to agree, that was what I wanted anyways. Are you happy with your choice or do you wish you had picked a different type? I am totally happy with my decision. I wish I had done it earlier, but this was the right time for me. I was done having kids, done nursing and ready to get healthier for my kids. I don't think I would have been ready any sooner. Would I recommend my surgeon? Yes, I sure would and definately do. My hubby is having his done with the same surgeon and so is my cousin. I feel like giving Dr. Ramanathan's business card to anyone that I think could benefit from the surgery. I love Dr. R. He rocks!!!!

Looking at the responses we have a quorum of Lap RNY. I, too, had Lap RNY. My doctor chose it for me. Initially, I wanted the Lapband because I liked the reversible aspect of it. the idea of permanently changing my body terrified me. I have Barrett's Esophagus, and my doctor told me that RNY was my only choice. I needed to reduce if not eliminate irritation to my esophagus. I am so glad I had RNY. Ithink this was the best decision for me. I would an do recommend my surgeon to othrs. He is tops. Aime

Great Question Felicia!! Surgery that I had was Lap RNY. I looked into the Lap Band but I did not like the fact of the fills and the needle into the port idea either. It takes an average of a person that has Lap Band 5 years longer to lose the extra weight they carry...I was not going to be that patient of a person to work 5 years to lose the weight. NOPE!!! I really looked into both but choose the Lap RNY because this is the only one offered at the time in Iowa...they just started doing the Lap Band within the last 6 months. I think I made the right choice with the surgery that I went with. I would recommend my surgeon to others he is very nice and shows concern when needed. Hugs~~ Deanne

Good Morning everyone. Looks like most of us had the Lap RNY. That is what I had and am so glad that I did. My first persuit of this surgery a few years ago I only knew about RNY. Then when I tried for the surgery the second time I learned about the Lapband and thought that was what I wanted to do, being afraid of the drastic change the RNY would create. Then I found out my insurance did not cover LapBand. I sure am glad they didn't as I am so happy with the surgery that my doctor did. Just another aspect of how I feel that God had his hands in this whole thing with me. This has been such a rewarding journey and I would reccomend my surgeon in a heatbeat. He is the best, though each of us think the same thing. They must be a special breed of surgeons, caring so much about us, to give us all a second chance to life. It is so funny, I have thought about him and the work that he does and think of howalot of other surgeons get these beautiful fit men or women on their tables and then our surgeons get these "blobs". Hopefully you all know what I mean with that statement, no offense to anyone, but then I think of how rewarding it must be to them then when they see the success of what they do, and what a difference they have made in our lives. Then again there are foot doctors that only look at feet, so I guess every doctor has their own love. I think I am still in that left field weekend mentality here...Oh well.... Love.......Gay

What surgery did you have? RYN Why did you choose that surgery type? Everyone I had talked to had this surgery and everyone of them said they would do it all over again! The only person I knew that had the lap band was my PCP and he said he wished he had done the RYN as he was not as pleased with his weight loss as he had hoped he would be! Are you happy with your choice or do you wish you had picked a different type? VERY HAPPY!!! I feel fantastic....better than fantastic!! And everyone tells me how good I am looking these days! Holly
