Excessive Periods after Surgery

Hi everyone, I have been trying to look up information on my issue and not having much luck. Before surgery I was on the depo shot, and never got a period. Well..right after surgery I started my period, but figured that was normal because I have heard that. I had it for about a week and then it stopped, but came back 2 weeks later. (had surgery oct 30th 2006) I continued to have my period on and off every 2 weeks, and they were heavy. Then, since January I have had my period pretty much non-stop, with maybe a days break in between 2 of them. So I am pretty much bleeding heavy and all the time. ANy idea why this could be happening? I am still on the Depo shot as I was before, nothing has changed except for having LAP RNY surgery. I am going to ask my Dr when I see him Feb 27th, but wondered if anyone has experienced this or may know what is causing this. Im afraid Im gonna lose too much iron and become anemic. I also see my OBGYN on tuesday next week. Thank you for any advice or thoughts! Shannon

I am not so sure I would wait that long to tell someone about whats been going on. A few days could count a lot if you are becoming anemic or have something else wrong. Give your PCP or surgeon a call today and verify at least that its ok to wait till Tuesday. I have read a lot on the boards about people having the exact same experience as you are so I believe it is quite normal. Especially with how much the surgery and the fast weight loss throws our hormones off. I don't have any advice of what you should do other then call your Dr. ASAP. Mine have been like clock work with no change at all. Good luck to you and please keep us posted on how you are doing ok!! *huggles* Felicia =0)

OH MY, Shannon!!! So sorry that you are going through this. I have not had this happen to me. I went from being irregular, having very long cycles to about 30-32 day cycles with only 4-5 days of bleeding. I would definately call your pcp, obgyn or surgeons office today. You could be very anemic. I got yelled at when I was younger for waiting so long to call a dr about long cycles. I went 8 months without a period and when it came, it was lasting for like 8 weeks. I finally called my pcp (very old dr.) and he gave me a shot of testosterone. Of course when I saw my obgyn he yelled at me for letting someone give me a shot of testosterone. It might be time for you to switch from the depo shot to something else. Of course, that is something to discuss with your obgyn next week, but I would be making some calls today. Also, make sure not to skip your iron right now. You need it if you are bleeding that much. Hugs to you. I hope you get some relief soon!!! ~Tabby

Oh mercy Shannon! I agree with Felicia and Tabby. You need to call the docs today and tell them what is happening. Make sure it's okay to wait, etc. I'm worried about you, hon. Take care of yourself, take all your vitamins - especially your iron! Keep us posted on how you are doing. Hugs to you! Susan

hello i have had female problems for years.i started for the 1st time in 8mo the day b4 surgery. have had a very heavy one every month since so bad i can not function... i would talk to your dr. i was on depo for this problem years ago and had very bad problems to the point i will not even consider any hormone treatment. i have been begging gyno for years to take my parts out they just say no! my understanding is that excess fat = excess estrogen so losing excess weight fast is dumping all that excess in your system?????? and because of this trying to regulate things is hard sooo i am just gonna hold on tight and ride it out!!! however if you get any good input from your dr. please let me know. thanks cherie'
