I feel so stupid....
I am scared to buy clothes... SEEEEEEE STUPID!
Ok I know I have to do it since if I am not careful I am going to end up naked here one of these days as nothing will stay on. I cant even walk around the house barefoot because my pants are so long I trip over them now (serious! We measured them and they hang past my toes over 6 inches!!). The crotch of my pants hangs some where around the knee area and I am constantly walking around pulling them up.
Now you would think with that knowledge I would be RUNNING to buy new cloths happily but I have to say its the opposite problem. I have even come up with excuses to NOT buy them. You know the "don't want to waste my money if I am just going to have to buy more" yada yada. But I guess a couple of things have me scared.
1. What if I get there and the pants I got to try on don't fit like I think they will and the pants I am wearing just are so stretched out from to many years of wearing that I am actually STILL HUGE its just my pants are out of wack.
2. What if I haven't lost enough to fit in clothes at the store. Ok basically the same as 1 lol.
3. HOW do I pick a size??? My brain says BIGGEST THEY HAVE but waaaaa thats a whole emotional issue in itself.
And the list goes on and on and on of insecurities. I have to admit that its been YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS since I have bought ANY clothes!!! SERIOUSLY! Sadly the pants I have stretch super well *sigh*. I did order a couple shirts from LaneBryant when I started my WLS journey last year but I about had a stroke trying to find a size BIG ENOUGH. Shirts OMG that is a whole separate issue and don't even get me started on under garments.
When did I lose the brain power to buy a simple pair of pants??? I am terrified to go in and even try anything on in fear that nothing will fit JUST LIKE ALWAYS!!!! Not to mention looking totally stupid as I take in to the dressing room 60 different things because my brain says I am a yada yada and in reality I am 20 sizes smaller lolol.
SHEESH talk about issues. OK when you are all done laughing your butts of at my stupidity on this lol HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
Where in the world do I start. Going to have hubby take pictures of these darn pants I have on today. OMG they are hilarious. But sadly they are also a HUGE security.
Thanks for reading.

I can totally relate to what you wrote! It is a scary transistion in this journey. We are not only losing weight but we are becoming a new person. Well maybe not a new person but who we really are.
For years I have hidden behind my weight but now I am ready to face the world. It has been baby steps but any step in the right direction is a good thing.
Do you have any good 2nd hand shop in town? Head there and try on about 5 different sizes. You will feel so much better when you have clothes that fit. It will make you look better as well.
When I first bought a couple of new pants I took in sizes that were way too big and I couldn't figure out why I still looked so foolish then the sales lady told me that the sizes were way too big. I had to hear it from a "professional" before I would believe it.
The stores have some awesome end of season sales right now.
So get out there and get some pant before you start flashing the town!

Thanks for the reply Tara!!
I thought I would be so excited about buying new clothes and now that the time has come I can not get over the fear of it lolol. I have to go get my drivers license renewed next week ( as long as we don't get another snow storm lol then I am putting it off a week or so ) and plan to stop by a couple places on the way home.
I will let you know how it goes!!

Felicia, I know exactly where you are coming from. I too have not bought new things since I had surgery. I take that back, I did buy a sweater for Christmas but other than that the only new thing I got was a Steeler T-shirt from my girls. That was a guys shirt but it did fit. I never really was into shopping for clothes though. I could never find tops that fit me so I made my own clothes. Those tops now fall off of me, so I am wearing things that I had before that I out grew. Those now are getting big and thank heavens I don't go out that often, to need to keep up with the new wardrobe. I still wear a couple pair of pants that drag on the floor too. But for me I think the baggy clothes are a security type blanket. I like feeling the baggy clothes and feeling how much I have accomplished. I know they do not look good on me and it is when I do wear the clothes that fit me that people comment on how much I have lost. But we have to start somewhere with buying clothes. Make sure you take some one with you when you go. They will help you pick things out and tell you how it is. I know when I did try stuff on, nothing looked right to me, but when I took my daughters, they helped me see how things really looked. We are used to not liking how we look in the mirror and will not give ourselves permission to say how good we actually do look. Just bite the bullet, go and buy some new pants and work on making them baggy and too long. Good luck....Gay
FELICIA,
WAIT, WAIT, I'M TRYING TO PICK MYSELF UP OFF THE FLOOR, THERE I'M UP. NOW I HAVE TO GO AND CHANGE MY UNDIES. OH MY GOD! I LAUGHED AND LAUGHED.
NOT AT YOU BUT WITH YOU. I COULD JUST PICTURE EVERY THING YOU SAID. I WAS GOING TO TELL MY MOTHER, SHE LIVES W/ ME, BUT I DECIDED NOT TO. I FIGURED SINCE I LAUGHED SO HARD SHE WOULD TOO, AND WE DON'T WANT HER TO DO THAT. SHE HAS STAGE 3 LUNG CANCER AND IF SHE STARTS LAUGHING REALLY HARD SHE GETS EXTREMELY SHORT OF BREATH. SO I JUST TOLD HER I WAS THINKING OF SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED AT WORK THE OTHER DAY.
I'M IN THE SAME POSITON, I, LIKE YOU DESPERATELY NEED SMALLER CLOTHES BUT DON'T WANT TO SPEND THE MONEY, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE KNOW THAT WE'RE GOING TO LOOSE MORE. WHAT A QUANDRY.
DO ANY OF US KNOW HOW TO USE A ZIPPER AND BUTTON ANY MORE? I'M SO USE TO THESE COMFORTABLE POLYESTER STRETCHY ELASTIC WAISTED PANTS THAT I DON'T THINK I REMEMBER WHAT A PAIR OF "REAL" COTTON PANTS LOOK AND FEEL LIKE. LET ALONE HOW TO WORK A ZIPPER. IS THAT THE THING W/ LITTLE TEETH AND A PULL TAB? WAIT, IT'S COMMING BACK TO ME, I BELIEVE I USE TO HAVE THEM ON CLOTHES WHEN I WAS A BABY. I THINK MY MOTHER USE TO PULL THEM UP FOR ME, BUT IT'S ALL A FOGGY MEMORY.
I CAN TOTALLY RELATE. MY CLOTHES ARE ALSO HANING OFF, INCLUDING THE UNDIES. THE OTHER DAY AT WORK THEY, THE UNDIES, STARTED FALLING DOWN, I WASN'T THINKING ABOUT WHERE I WAS, I JUST STOPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HALL, REACHED INTO MY SCRUB PANTS AND PULLED UP THE UNDIES, THEY HAD FALLEN DOWN AROUND THE TOPS OF MY THIGHS. THANK HEAVENS I HAD ON NAVY BLUE SCRUBS ON. CAN'T YOU JUST PICTURE IT? WHEN I TURNED AROUND THERE WAS MY DIRECTOR OF NURSING.
NEEDLESS TO SAY I'M GOING TO HAVE TO BREAK DOWN AND GET SOME NEW UNIFORMS. AT LEAST I CAN TAKE THEM OFF ON NEXT YEARS INCOME TAX.
HAPPY CLOTHES HUNTING
DONNA, SFY
Warn me next time!!!
I laughed way too hard when I read about your director being behind you when you pulled up your undies!!!! I think I need to borrow my son's inhaler!! (just kidding) My family now thinks I'm because of the way I keep laughing at the computer.
Now....go throw away ALL those undies and buy some new ones!!!! You deserve it!
Susan
OH SWEET MERCY I about spit my drink out reading your post.
Were you in my head or something ??? TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO freaking funny about the button and the zipper. I hadn't even thought of those yet. And here I was feeling adventurous and you have to go and add another phobia to my list!!!!
Good luck with the new scrubs and undies !!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for the laugh. I really needed it!!

Felicia honey,
Once you go out shopping you will love it i been shopping a lot lately you now im in the public eye all of the time , being a jewelry designer is not easy if you dont look good your stuff dosent look good , thats what my best customer said once she came to a show and i was having a bad day , so my advice to you is to get only 2 shirts and 1 pair of pants and give them a nice ride.....
Lots of love Maria
I started off by going to Goodwill and getting a variety of sizes..from the biggest they had and down a size or two. I figured one had to fit, and if not...they eventually would.
Those 1st pants only lasted a week (they were too big) - but it gave me a size frame to look for.
Now I go to Goodwill once a month or so and do the same....buy everything I can find from teh current size on down. I hang the smaller clothes in the closet where they wait until it's their "time."
