OT: Update on son
Well....
I'm home.
The pulmo is as frustrated as I am. He has no clue what is wrong.
Well, let me rephrase that. He knows Matthew is having an acute asthma exacerbation. However, he does not know what is causing it. Hence, the problems we are going thru.
So, today they decided to up his steroids AGAIN and test him for Flu A & B. We did the test in plenty of time but either the lab didn't call the doc with the results OR they didn't check for them. Not sure which. But, either way, I still don't know if they were positive or negative. Gotta wait till tomorrow.
He has an appt scheduled for Wednesday. It's up to my discretion if we use it or not. If he's no better or is worse, we go in that day (and I plan to beg them to admit him). If he's better, I can cancel it and just go in next week for a follow up.
So, I'm home again, giving the child 8 different medications PLUS nebulizer treatments every 4 hours round the clock.
Donna...as you know quite a bit about asthma here's what he's doing right now...Prednisone, 60 mg a day; asmanex 3 puffs BID, foridil 1 puff BID, Zyrtec 10 mg QD, Singular 10 mg QD, Nexium 40 mg QD, astellin nasal spray 1 spray BID and flonase 1 spray BID. Plus xopenex 1.25 q 4 hrs. Horrible, huh? So, really, at this point the only thing they could do is admit him, do lots of tests and add the IV steroid (forgot how to spell it, lol) to the regime.
Thanks to you all for your lovely words earlier. You guys are the BESTEST!!! Sorry it's taken me so long to update, but I've been exhausted and had to cook dinner, etc. This is my first chance to sit and relax for a few.
Susan
I bet you are so frustrated. I hope that you are able to find something out tomorrow. Sounds like making sure your son gets all of his meds is a full time job. Please update us when you get a chance. I hope the pulmo gets some answers from the tests done today. I still have you and your son in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing him well.
Hugs,
Tabby
Thanks Tabby.
Frustrated barely hits the tip of it. We've been dealing with this since New Years weekend when it all started. He's had a few days here and there where he felt well, but most of the time he's been ill. He's missed so much school it's not even funny.
I'll keep you updated. Thanks for the prayers.
Susan
Hmmm....How to answer this question...
I'm not sure. Poor boy. He's Finally. He barely slept at all last night due to the meds he's taking. So, this morning I decided to let him sleep for a while. The treatments don't seem to be helping him AT ALL...so I figure, for this once, I'll do the treatment at 6 hours instead of 4 and let him REST. Maybe that's what his body needs more than anything else right now. Who knows?
The doc yesterday didn't seem to have a clue about why it's taking so long for him to respond to the meds and get better. I'm still waiting on the results from the flu test yesterday. Thinking about calling the office if they don't call me within the next hour.
And, we have a cold front moving in this afternoon/evening. Thankfully, he already has an appt scheduled for tomorrow. I have a feeling we will need it.
So.....unfortunately, nothing has changed. Thanks for asking. I'll update again later as I know how he's doing.
