HAS ANYONE DONE THIS?
YOU GO GROCERY SHOPPING OR STOP AT THE DRUG STORE, YOU'VE BEEN CRAVING SOMETHING, YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT FOR A FEW DAYS. THEN IT HITS YOU, A PIECE OF CHOCOLATE, NOT JUST ANY CHOCOLATE BUT DARK CHOCOLATE. WELL THAT'S ME. NOW I DON'T HAVE ANY OF THOSE "MONTHLY" CRAVINGS AS I'M 51, POST MENAPAUSAL AND HAD A TAH/BSO IN 2005. SORRY, THAT'S A TOTAL ABDOMINAL HYSTERECTOMY W/ BILATERAL (both sides) SAPINGOOOPHERECTOMY. SORRY AGAIN, THAT'S BOTH OVERIES AND TUBES REMOVED.
WELL I DID IT. I PICKED UP A BAR OF HERSHEY'S EXTRA DARK CHOCOLATE, SLAP ME PLEASE. I READ THE NUTRICIONAL VALUES, SUGAR WAS 14gms PER 3 SQUARES. SO, I OPENED THE PACKAGE AND HAD ONE SQUARE. I FIGURE THAT'S 4.5gms. NOW I'LL TELL YOU, THAT FIRST BITE WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD, LIKE I HAD DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN. YES I DID FEEL GUILTY, BUT I FIGURE I'M NOT GOING TO DENEIGH (sp?) A CRAVING IF IT'S CONSTANTLY NAGING ME. DON'T YOU THINK IT'LL GET GET WORSE? SO I ATE THE WHOLE PIECE, ABOUT 1 INCH SQUARE AND THAT WAS THAT, THE CRAVING IS GONE, BY THE LAST BITE IT LEFT A FUNNY TASTE IN MY MOUTH. NO STOMACH CRAMPING, NO NAUSEA OR VOMITING NO FOAMIES JUST A SATISFIED CRAVING.
NOW I HAVE A BAR OF EXRTA DARK CHOCOLATE MINUS 1 SQUARE FOR SALE, ANY TAKERS?
SERIOUSLY, HAVE I DONE ANY DAMAGE? HAVE I SABATAGED MYSELF? YOU BE THE JUDGE.
THANKS, DONNA, SFY
Ok I will admit I am one of the freaks that really isn't into chocolate lol but I have to say that I don't see why what you did was wrong... I mean its not like you ate the whole bar now is it? Enjoy it. Move on. ( oh and throw the rest of it AWAY! ) we all have our "cravings". Mine is chips. So once a week when we have our Friday take out dinner I order a small side of chips. I eat 3 or 4 of them and toss the rest. I am satisfied and don't end up doing something super stupid cuz I went on and on ignoring the craving till it kicked me in the butt and I ate a whole bag of them or something. The only "damage" comes from if you didn't see what you did and you didn't stop and think about what to do next. The fact is eating it once in a while is not a bad thing. We are not supposed to be depriving ourselves here lol we are supposed to be learning and living a better lifestyle. That means moderation lol and not saying good by to good things in life. Now if you keep the bar and continue to eat on it for the rest of the week then (in my opinion) you have done damage and you are sabataging your self. Again my 2 cents lol.
I say enjoy the nibble. Throw the rest out and move on!!

Thanks for the great words of wisdom. I'm actually going to take the bar into work on Wednesday and give it to another nurse or one of the doctors. They both also love the dark chocolate, we're weird. Most people love the milk chocolate.
I enjoyed the nibble and will now move on.
Thanks felicia.
Donna, sfy
Hey Donna!!
Weighing in with my 2 cents worth. I agree with Felicia 100%. We are learning a new way to live life. That doesn't necessarily mean doing without forever. It means learning to live with moderation. Which, it seems you did. You ate ONE piece, not the whole bar. You didn't buy a box of them, just one. Moderation. Within the limits of what your body can handle.
Now, I don't recommend you doing this every day or even every week. But, once in a while, as long as it doesn't cause you to dump....why not. Especially if you are having a massive craving for it. Or, find a s/f way to satisfy it. I've heard there are some s/f dark chocolate bars out there that are supposed to be fantastic. Don't remember the name though...sorry.
So, IMHO, no, you didn't sabotage yourself. Now, go give that candy to someone else!!!
Oh...and no, I haven't tried that. I've had s/f chocolate pudding or s/f hot chocolate or s/f CIB when I've HAD to have chocolate. My downfall is chips....so every so often, I make guacamole and have 4 multigrain tostitos with it. Those were the healthiest tortilla chips I could find at our local grocery.

I agree like the others you have to satisfy your cravings every now and then to get it out and so that does not lead to put other things in and overeating. I do not like chocolate all that much either. I did eat over the weekend a fry and it was so good but I paid the price in the long run and have felt crappy about it and how I felt every since.
Give it to someone else wil help you brighten there day and you satisified a craving all at the same time.
Hugs~~

I agree that you are not sabotaging yourself, just satisfying a craving. We are learning to live in moderation and it sounds like you did ok. One bite is not going to ruin all of the work you have done. We had birthday cake for my sisters birthday the other day and I took 1/2 a piece of cake and shared it with my daughter. I was craving it and I ate a little and didn't eat 2-3 pieces like I would have in the past. I have had a few chips here and there, too. NOT a half a bag in a sitting. Just walked past a bowl at a party and took a chip. It satisfied my craving and I moved on. My weight is still coming off. Maybe not as quickly as I would like, but I don't feel deprived.
Glad you enjoyed your chocolate. I LOVE DARK CHOCOLATE, too. Especially DOVE!!! I told DH yesterday that I want a SF Candybar from our local Chocolate Shop...Sarris. That's all I asked for for Valentine's Day. I hope he tries to find me one.
You're doing great...
Hugs,
