I've gained
I don't know what is happening to me. I have gained 3 pounds literally over night!!!!!! Yesterday was a fairly normal day. The only thing I can think of is that my protein was down and I had a baked potato for dinner. Could it be from the carbs in the potato? I also had some popcorn. Even if that had some effect on my weight could it really make me gain 3 pounds??????? Something just isn't right. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.
Hugs
Allison
Allison,
I know when I weigh myself, I get on that scale 3 times to make sure it was right.
Also, sometimes they say we retain fluid. I seriously doubt that baked potato did it. You could just be retaining fluid, or, have to go to the 'bathroom'... they say to weigh yourself after you have 'gone'...
Don't weigh yourself every day, it can be a downer
Cheer up!
Welp I am probably going to go against the norm and say that it probably WAS the carbs and starches in the potato and the popcorn. Did you put any salt on them or any other toppings? What else did you have that day? How much protein did you get in? There are plenty of combs that could have us gaining that fast.
Can you gain 3lbs over night? Y E S !!!
Is it fat? N O !!!!
Best advice is to drink plenty of water and if you are going to eat carbs and starches of that level to not weigh the next morning lol and wait a day to step on the scale. By tomorrow if you are careful today and get in plenty of fluids you will probably see the scale back down where it belongs in no time.
Remember your a girl lol you are prone to water weigh fractionation's its a curse but part of the whole "girl" thing.
*huggles*
No worries I am sure its not a permanent gain!!

I read a post just yesterday on another forum about this topic. You are most likely retaining fluid. It is important to up the water intake so you don't reatin fluids. It also helps to flush the glycogen from you liver which could be stored as fat.
Don't sweat it. Start anew tomorrow. Oh, and a baked potato isn't necessarily a bad carb. What you put on it most likely is the bad carb. Try a sweet potato next time. Better vitamin values.

It happens to me too. It's not what you ate. Our body is always retaining water. I ate a half of a baked potatoe last night and didn't gain any weight. Popcorn is low in calories too. I do notice when I drink alot of water through the day I sometime weigh one to two pounds more at in the evening, but it goes away the next day. I also retaining when it's my time of the month.
Allison,
I weigh myself daily and I see gains from time to time. As long as I didn't do anything wrong and it's gone again within a day or two, I don't worry about it.
I'm 46, so my cycle is off, which means I could be pre-menstrual without realizing it. I could have eaten more salt one day. Or sat on my butt too much. And, yeah, maybe eaten more carbs than I should have.
Often, I see no movement for a few days, then, suddenly, 3 or 4 pounds seems to be gone...probably not because I did something extraordinary that day...just because I'm a human being and my body does what it needs to do. As long as I'm taking care of it, what more can I do?
Give it a few days and see what happens.

I know what you mean! I have a problem with checking the scales too much. I need to throw the damn things away!!! My weight goes up and down everyday...usually about a lb. And the thing of it is, I won't loose nothing for a week or so. My weight seems to be coming off really slow now. I have started excerising and making sure I am getting my protein and watching everything that I eat. I have had a hysterectomy and I think it could play a part in the slow weight loss. I am really not going to worry about it though. If it takes me 2 years to lose 120 lbs then so be it. I have already lost about 63 lbs depending on what the scales say when I get up in the mornings. So I am half way there to goal and I am feeling finer than frog hair
Hi Allison!!
I don't think this is a gain you really need to worry about. I agree with the other posters that it's probably jus****er retention, which we have for a variety of reasons. Make sure you up your water intake and get in all your protein and vitamins and I'm betting the pounds will drop fast.
Take care!
Susan
