Question about fats....
Okay....I have Mommy brain or am having a senior moment or SOMETHING. I forgot which fat is the "good" fat and which is the "bad" fat when we are looking at the nutritional values, etc.
Can someone re-educate me??
Today I hit an all time high on my fat intake and didn't eat any "bad" foods. So, for my peace of mind, I need this info. Thanks!!
Susan
Sat Fat = Bad
INCREASE THE GOOD FAT~ The good fats are the unsaturated fats. The majority are liquid at room temperature and mostly come from plants and fish. There are 2 types of unsaturated fats, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated.
monounsaturated fats lower your bad LDL cholesterol and raise your good HDL cholesterol, which is great for the diet program. You can find monounsaturated fats in extra virgin olive oil and olives, canola oil, almonds and avocados.
polyunsaturated fats These fats help reduce inflammation, lower triglyceride levels, increase HDL cholesterol, and lower blood pressure. The most important of these fats are the OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS. Omega 3's are severely lacking in the typical American diet, so almost anyone will benefit from increasing these healthy fats. Omega 3's can be found in fatty fish like wild salmon, sardines and mackerel. They're also found in soy beans, walnuts and flax seed. Fish oil supplements can also be taken to increase your Omega 3's.
Okay....I just looked at my numbers on Fitday...and basically my saturated fats are equalling my unsaturated fats. I know that my cholesterol levels are coming out really good each time, so I'm guessing that I'm doing okay?
I do my best to get in the good fats, avocado, olive oil, canola oil, fish.....so I guess it's working.
I hope!! lol
