PIZZA ON A PITA?
Hi everyone
I purchased some mini whole wheat pita pockets so I can put some sauce and cheese to make a mini pizza... my question is, do I toast the pita first? I imagine I would want it to be crispy? I know, you must think I'm an idiot! But I would think it would be too doughy for me if I didn't pre-toast, no?
I guess I could just try it and find out - but I thought I'd ask here first, to see if anyone else has made them.
Also, my mini pitas are pockets - does that matter? should I cut them in half, and make 2 pitas out of 1?
Michelle,
For one....girl you are brave! Anywho but ye you want to toast it first. I am too afraid of anything doughy like that. But let me know how it goes might be something to try. I would pop them in the oven and doast them up. You could brush them with a tiny tiny bit of olive oil and maybe some spices too. I think you will be suprised how much you will not be able to eat. I tried pizza once and could not even eat the toppings off of one slice! Tasted good though but the cheese is pretty rich.
Good luck and let me know how it goes...oh and yes I would cut them in half. It will cut down on the bulk of it and also cut down on the carbs.
Let me know!
Melissa
I'm not really brave... I've purchased lots of things that are just sitting in my freezer/cabinets that I'm too scared to try - safe foods, but I just don't like to add new things to my menu, I tend to stick to the safe things, like yogurt and applesauce! Eggs are not my friend anymore!
Anyhow, I have eaten the top of a slice of pizza, cheese/sauce, and it's yummy and have had it on several occasions. I've tasted a piece of crunchy crust, but never more than a bite. I stay away from the doughy stuff.
The pitas I bought were Thomas's and they are mini pitas, smaller than a 7" paper plate, for sure.
I definitely will cut the pita in 1/2 and toast it - then throw the sauce and cheese on (cheese is where I'll get my protein!). This is just going to be a once in a while treat, can't make the carbs a habit!
Thanks for your input, I'll let you know how it goes.
Sounds yum...let me know how it goes....Hubby would love something like this once in a while. My sister-in-law used to do something kinda like that but she loaded it with ground beef. Tons of protein. Her tummy can handle much more than ours of course but you gave me a great idea for hubby. He is almost 7 months out so his diet is a little more diversified. I stick to yogurt too but I have just found out that eggs are pretty cool with me. Did them the last two mornings with littel tomatoes and a little onion...saute in a tad bit of butter then add my egg in. I mix the egg first with a little milk for moisture. Totally loving it. Oh and I add a bit of cumin to it. We have been in divine heaven having eggs two mornings in a row. Hubby is just now able to eat them as well believe it or not! best of luck to you and please please let me know how it goes.
Hugs,
Melissa
Hi Michelle...
Well, my take on it is much the same as Melissa's. Definitely toasted, probably with a brushing of olive oil and herbs. And definitely cut in half....and maybe half again because about 1/4 of the whole pita pocket will probably be all you'll be able to eat - especially with the sauce and cheese on top.
It does sound like a yummy snack to have every now and then. Let us know how it goes when/if you try it!!!

I make my mini pizzas on flour tortilla shells. I like the thin-n-crispy crust it provides. Sometimes I make a crustless pizza. I spray a small plate with olive oil spray then a slice of ham, topped with pizza sauce, pepperoni and cheese then microwave to melt the cheese. Lots of protein and only 1 or 2 carbs depending on how much sauce I use.
Yummy!
