Ok, I know it's far from the year we're supposed to wait before indulging in alcoholic beverages...but...has anyone? If so, how did your body/pouch react to it? What did you drink and how much? Any problems? Thanks, Lisa

I had a very, teensy, tiny sip of my moms pomagranate martini punch thta she made for her Christmas party. It was YUMMY...wish I could have had my own, maybe next year. I have been wanting to try that Bailey's with Caramel, but will wait on that, too. I had people shoving moonshine in my face at a party I went to last year, but just sniffed it. Drunks just don't take no for an answer. My nurse told me on Monday that if I want to drink alcohol to wait until 6 mos out and then try it at home first to see how my body reacts. She said she didn't want to hear about me dancing naked on the tables. I told her that even at 6 mos out, I doubt I would be dancing on the tables. Hee Hee. If you try it, let us know how you tolerate it. Be careful. Hugs, Tabby

Hi Lisa, I have only had one teeny tiny sip of hubbys Jack and coke one night. More to get the taste than anything else...and a taste was basically all I got, so no reaction from the pouch. Susan

HEY LISA, I WAS TOLD TO WAIT 6 MONTHS BEFORE HAVING ANY ALCOHOL. BUT I'M ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO DO JUST THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT THEY ARE TOLD. I HAD SOME ASTI SPUMONTI ON NEW YEARS EVE, ABOUT 1.5oz. IT DIDN'T BOTHER MY MINI STOMACH AND IT DIDN'T GO STRAIGHT TO MY HEAD AS I'VE READ ON THE MAIN BOARD. JUST REMEMBER ALCOHOL HAS A HIGH SUGAR CONTENT SO DRINK W/ CAUTION. DONNA,SFY

I am 3 months post op (10/19/06). I have had a few drinks here and there. Margaritas and such are not good - too much sugar in the mixers. Beer is fine with me, but you have to sip it so slowly, that it gets warm before you even fini****!

I was told nothing for at least 6 months but safer with a year. I was told more to the affect of the stress on the liver since it is already working over time rather than the sugar and or the way it would affect you. I was not a big drinker before so there is no loss for me. May have a glass of wine or so on our anniversary in Aug but before then it is a no for me. I just figure I have put my little liver through so much already with all the fat it had to deal with before now it is working over time for me detoxing all the fat our of my body. Poor little thing must hate me by now LOL Anywho everyone has to make up their own mind. You have to do what is right for you. We each are in this for our own journey! best of luck, Melissa

Thanks for all the responses. It may not be for a couple weeks yet, but I'd like to have a few sips of whiskey (maybe with diet 7Up). I definitely don't want to get sick, esp. in public. Lisa

I had some when I went to the conference in Richmond. I felt it quickly, but it also left just as quickly. I only had one drink each night. Aime

Wow my doc is pretty liberal...He told me that Christmas was a long enough wait to have a glass of wine or such and my surgery was 10/27/06. I had a shot of tequilla slowly sipped and got a slight buzz but nothing major. New years eve I had a glass of wine and again this past Saturday. I also had a few sips of a margarita but the sugar content scared me. I warn you all to avoid the baileys, kahlua, buttershots, and puckers. They have a TON of sugar and would probably cause dumping. As always ....drink responsibly!
