I have a ?..
I am thinking about making some chili and of course going to put things in I like.. Anywho..I was going to put baked beans in it since I don't like any other types of beans except for green beans and well lets be honest..no green beans. Do you guys think that would be a okay thing to do?
Also can we share some new recipes? I love new recipes for anything.
Hugs,
Hey there, well it is 3 PM and you have probably started making your chili already but thought I would write anyway. I would see no problem in putting the baked beans in your chili. Beans of any kind are good for us and I would think the baked beans would just be like the regular beans that are in chili. As far as recipes, I have none that are good for WLS patients but I still cook all the time for my family. The only thing I make for myself is the protein shakes that I make with the double milk and that gives me double protein. Luckily I have no appetite and really am not eating much of anything yet. Doc says lucky me. Hope your chili turns out good. Love....Gay
I found this one at http://www.recipezaar.com/179256
20 servings 26 min 25 min prep
Change to: servings US Metric
2 lbs ground beef
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 cup dark molasses
2 (3 lb) cans baked beans
1 large onion
1 cup barbecue sauce
1 cup brown sugar
Brown meat and drain.
Cut onion into rings.
Add spices and onion.
Stir in 1/2 bottle of molasses and brown sugar.
Add Baked Beans, BBQ Sauce -- we like Sweet Baby Rays.
Bake for 1-1.5 hours at 350.
I'm sure you can substitute Splenda brown sugar for the real thing and there may be a sugar free/low sugar molasses or barbecue sauce...??? I haven't tried it, but it sounds good.
It would certainly give the chili and excellent flavor and beans are high in protein...and although high in carbs - they are healthier carbs.
However, I would check the label on the baked beans and figure out how much sugar will end up in each serving of the chili - as the canned baked beans are usually loaded with the stuff. I am sure, once it's added to the big pot of chili - you won't be getting as high an amount, but you'll want to make sure.
My recipie is rather hit or miss.....
1-2 pounds of ground meat (this week it is turkey)
1-2 cans of beans (this week I have 1 can red, 1 can black)
1-2 cans of diced tomatos (this week I have ones with chili's added).
Any other canned tomato product
Veggies:
Red, green and yellow peppers (1 each) - a must
1/2 an onion
optional veggies: various squash type things and carrots
Spices:
chili powder, garlic, cumin, red pepper flakes etc. (what ever I see that smells good in the cabinet).
Secret ingredient: wing sauce! (not kidding) I also like to add a very special bbq sauce found on the east coast of north carlolina (Outerbanks Area) called Carolina Treat...but I don't always have any left from the last trip down there (maybe every other year).
I have a packet of chili seasoning to toss in this week too.
Sorry it's not much of a recipie - I do love my chili though.
Good luck making your chili tomorrow or this weekend. I hope you enjoy it. I like the Wendy's chili. I make my husband get me two containers when he goes to Walmart because it is just next door. It tastes as good as anything I can make and a lot less time consuming. I do like chili though. MMMMMM...especially on a cold day. Might need to get some tomorrow. It is only going to be like 20 degrees here tomorrow. YUCK!!! Sounds like a coffee or hot cocoa day, too. I have been putting a little sugar free hazlenut or french vanilla coffee creamer in my sugar free hot cocoa to give it a little better taste. Sure does work. MMMMMMmmm!!! Gotta go make me some, now.
Hugs,
