Some new finds at the grocery store
I'm always on the lookout for new things and easier ways to get in protein. I'm also looking for things that are safe to eat and just taste good as well. My recent top 3 are...
1. Nakanano seasoned rice vinegar (20cal per tablespoon)
it tastes so good - you don't even need to mix it with oil to use as salad dressing. I don't eat much salads, but...when I've had all my protein for the day and I can have a low protein snack, nothing tastes better than a few slices of raw cucumber with salt, pepper and rice vinegar. YUM.
2.Cozy Shack "By Request" (no sugar added) Pudding
I prefer tapioca, but chocolate is pretty good too. Tapioca has 4g of protein per serving, I forgot how many calories, it's decent though.
3. Quaker Q-Smart Snack Bars
10g protein, 1g sugar. 120 calories. Tastes like a slightly dry granola bar, the chocolate like coating tastes authentic. My only caution is the 4g of sugar alcohol. However, I am extremely sensetive to them, and so far (knock on woods) no problem with this bar. The carbs are a bit high for my liking (9g) - but 2 of them are fiber, and I only eat one when the rest of my carb intake is low low low, so it's not a problem. It's a quick easy way to get in 10g of protein in a snack.
How about you? Any new products you love?
I haven't tried that brand of Seasoned rice Vinegar but I SIMPLY LOVE Rice Wine Vinegar. Like you said they are mild enough to just use as a dressing!! I'm a balsamic freak lol put it on everything. I love the tang of vinegars.
I will admit that I do not buy snack foods. Not because I am "not allowed" lol but becuase that even with the change in the size of my tummy I still mow thru them. Or should I say grazeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee thru them lol. Looks like you picked out some good ones though!!
Thanks so much for sharing!!

Grazing is definatley not an issue for me.
Not eating enough usually IS.
Working full time and then teaching a full load (usually 2 hours worth) of lessons at night and putting in an hour at the gym means eating on the run. With my "snacks" I usually calcuate how much protein I need and choose the best option to get that amount in with the least volume of food. I don't like the ready to drink shakes and I don't have time to mix one up before leaving work and heading to the next thing - so something convienently packaged and ready to go is just the right option for me.
Last night for example, I knew that about 4pm I was still a whopping 25g shy on my protein as I had been feeling cruddy all day. I knew I should at least grab a light string cheese out of the work fridge and toss it in my back to get some in - but I forgot it. Then I KNEW I should stop and pick up some form of protein (canned tuna or a hard boiled egg etc) on the way - but I didn't. So I ended up getting home at 10pm and facing a lecture from the boy ....then he sat there and made me eat some turkey - not 25g of protein worth - but enough that he was quiet about it for the rest of the night.
Today - I plan to be done with my 60g before I leave work so I won't have to worry about it anymore this evening.
Oh I hear ya on the "on the go eats needs" lol I don't have that problem so for me if its here its fair game *grin*. Have you tried the New Whey vials or the Profect vials to take with you? Not the greatest in taste mind you but glup glup and down goes 21gs of protein lol. I remember when I worked outside the house and I cant imagine sticking to the plan I have to stick to now back then. I admire you guys that work outside the house for being able to do it all and get in what you need to. Thats a job in itself!!
Good luck with your day!! I know you can get it in!!

I looked at the vials when you started talking them up, however the cost has held me back for now. I have cut back on my students in the evenings (from 6 per night to just 2) to make more time for working out and spending time with the boy. I may go back to a full schedule in the fall, at that time I'll have more money to play with as far as buying the more expensive protein supplements. For now I manage with a tub of carb advantage protein (vanilla flavor). I can add it to the pudding, and I make shakes when I have the time.
Yup I hear ya on the cost.. Thats why I like the 42g. You can only take half at a time so it drops the cost from 2.25 ish a vial to 1.13 ish a serving. Still not cheap but great to have around to throw in the purse for those just in case moments lolol.
WOW from 6 to 2.. that had to be a shock to your system. Good for you for putting yourself first though. Thats great!!! By fall you will be a completely different person *grin*. Size and relationship wize! lol

I usually get my protein through food throughout the day but I also eat a 50g Pure protein bar every night as a *snack* 20g protein and you can get them at Wal Mart for less than $6/a 6 pack box. If I got my 60g protein already its a bonus...if not it fills the void. And I love the taste!

I also have discovered Moo Magic. They are like the crystal light to go packetts but for milk. I have no issue with lactose intolerance...thank God....but I don't like to drink plain milk....just a taste thing. The Moo Magic comes in Chocolate Malt, strawberry, vanilla, banana and *shudder* bubble gum. I found em in the hot cocoa section at Stop and Shop.
Here are the stats on the Choco Malt:
1.5g serving 20% Vit A, C, D, E

0 fat 10% Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, B12

I love the stuff!
