Another "3 Month Checkup" Post
I too had my 3 month follow-up yesterday.
I was so glad to read that I am not the only person that has a 2.5 hour (1 way) drive to my checkups.
According to the doctors scale I am down 80lbs. According to my scale at home I am down 84. That is partiallly because I was so sick last week I couldn't eat at all. I lost 10 pounds last week alone. My weightloss has slowed since I have been literally forcing food into me the past few days.
I was hoping he would take pity on me and perhaps prescribe an antibiotic. Every day I call my pcp and every day she is booked, I can get an appointment...next week. I didn't come out and ask though - so it didn't come up. I keep hoping that tomorrow the sinus pain, drainage and fever will magically go away.
The rest of the appointment went well. The doctor was pleased with my progress. To date I have lost 33% of my excess body weight. My labs are good and I'm excercising daily (well, except for this past week).
We talked the longest time about birth control as that will be an issue in a few months and he is going to call my pcp about some changes in the "game plan" so that she will know about it.
The ride home was so long (and during evening rush hour) and it snowed the whole way (not "sticking" snow - just a pain to see through the windshield snow), I stopped at a grocery store and grabbed some soup, ate a few bites in the car, but was too anxious to finish the ride home. I got home, laid down on the couch and immediately fell asleep for the rest of the night.
6 month check up will be postponed by 2 weeks (will be in May) because it falls right during my wedding and honeymoon.
Hi Patricia!
I'm glad you had a good checkup! I'm sorry you haven't been able to get in to see your PCP though! Maybe you should go to the ER just so you can get an antibiotic started! Sinus infections can be nasty!!
I have my three month checkup on Thursday -- it's a 2 hour ride for me. Thank goodness my husband is willing to drive! We're supposed to have snow the rest of the week!
I hope you get to feeling better SOON!!!
Holly
P.S. I am feeling much better today! Thank goodness!!
Hey Patricia!!
I'm another one with a long commute to see my surgeon. It's about 3 hours from my house to his office. That can be a LONG drive - especially alone. It takes all day long to go up, see him and then get back. But, it's worth it.
Glad to see that your appointment was a good one!! Sounds like you are really on track! Way to go!! Keep up the good work.
BTW, when you call your PCP are you telling them how sick you are? I know (from experience working in a doctor's office) that a lot of times if you call saying you need an appointment, they try to book you the following week, but if you tell them all your symptoms, they can usually work you in either that day or the next. They have what are called Acute care appointments which are for people who are sick that day. If you don't have any luck with the receptionist, ask to speak with the nurse. A lot of times the nurse will do a phone triage and get you an appointment with the doctor. It's worth a try at least....especially since you are STILL sick! Bless your heart!!
I hope you start feeling better soon.
Susan
Good for you Patricia!
It sounds like you are doing everything right for your surgery. Keep up the good work.
PLEASE have your sinus infection checked.......I have had personal experience with bad complications from a sinus infection (my son developed abcesses in his brain). They are nothing to mess with.....especially since it is not going away.
I am kind of "hit and miss" here on the board (depends how busy I am at work), so I must have missed that you set a date for your wedding! When is it?
Sorry to be out of touch......

HEY PATRICIA,
ISN'T IT AMAZING TO SEE WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONES W/ SUCH A LONG DRIVE TO OUR SURGEONS OFFICE? WE MUST BE REALLY DEDICATED TO THIS NEW WAY OF LIFE TO TRAVEL THAT LONG FOR SUCH A BRIEF VISIT.
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE 33% LOSS OF EXCESS BODY WEIGHT AND THE GREAT LAB WORK.
DON'T NEGLECT THAT SINUS INFECTION, THEY CAN LINGER AND LOTS OF TIME END UP GOING INTO THE CHEST AND BECOMING BRONCHITIS, I KNOW IT HAPPENED TO ME THREE WEEKS AGO AND I WASN'T ABLE TO TAKE ANY WALKS LIKE WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BECAUSE OF BEING SO SHORT OF BREATH.
DO YOU HAVE OUT PT. CLINICS WHERE YOU LIVE? WE CALL THEM DOCS IN A BOX. WHY NOT TRY TO GO THERE AND SEE IF THEY CAN GIVE YOU AND ANTIBIOTIC.
HOPE YOU'RE FEELING BETTER SOON.
DONNA, SFY
Way to go Patricia!!! A little is definetly needed!!! What a great job.
I have about a 1 and half drive to by surgeon so not to bad. I feel for you guys that have the drive. I am getting ready to head to my PCP because I have the dreaded sinus infection and ear infection...YUCK! and I feel like crud. I haven't eaten a thing yet...
You guys take care and talk to you soon.
