3 MONTH VISIT
TOOK THE 2.5hr ONE WAY TRIP TO MY SURGEON TODAY FOR THE 3 MONTH CHECK UP. HE WALKS IN AND SAYS " YOU LOOK FANTASTIC, HOW ARE YOU FEELING." I TELL HIM FINE. HE THEN REVIEWS EVERYTHING AND SAYS, GET THIS, 68# THAT'S GOOD, NOT GREAT, BUT GOOD, IT'S ABOUT NORMAL. I JUST ABOUT HIT THE ROOF, WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME ANY OF US HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOSE 68# ON OUR OWN. MAYBE 30 yrs AGO W/ STARVATION MODE. SHEESH, I WAS SO DISHEARTENED.
HE THEN PROCEDES TO TELL ME AT THE NEXT 3 MONTH CHECK UP HE EXPECTS ME TO HAVE LOST 45# AND THAT IF MY PCP HASN'T TAKEN ME OFF MY HYPERTENSION MEDS HE'LL CONSIDER THE SURGERY A FAILURE.
SUPOSE I'M JUST ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE, DISPITE LOSING ALL THE WT. IS STILL HYPERTENSIVE? WHAT THEN? CAN YOU SAY NUTS? I CAN, EITHER WAY, IF I'M STILL ON THE MEDS OR OFF, I'M HAPPY JUST LOSING THIS WT. I'VE CARRIED AROUND FOR WAY TO LONG.
SO, HOW WAS YOUR DAY?
DONNA, SFY
OMG, DONNA!!! What an A$$!!!! I want to slap that man!!! I had my 3 month appt today and my nurse was VERY pleased with me losing over 65 lbs. I just can't believe your doctor was being so ignorant to you. And to tell you that you have to lose 45 lbs by your next 3 month checkup, that's just wrong. My nurse came right out and told me "Did you realize that what took you 1 month lose right after surgery, took you two months to lose after that and now it is going to slow down even more." That's what the dr is supposed to tell you. Not the crap your doctor told you. Not that they should coddle you, but you are doing amazing. Don't sweat it. If you lose the weight that you want to, then the surgery is a complete success. You go girl!!!
Hugs,
Tabby
Hi Donna!!
I can't believe how insensitive your surgeon was!!! 68 pounds gone after only 3 months is AWESOME!!!!!! I was in shock when I read that he said if you were still on your hypertensive meds in 3 more months he'd consider the surgery a failure! That is not the ONLY reason to have WLS. Yes, we all want to get off the meds or have them reduced, but the MAIN reason is to become healthier, happier and more active. You may be one of those people who has a high BP no matter what. It happens! So, don't let what he said get to you. HIS opinion is not the one that matters, YOURS is.
And, for my 2 cents worth, I say you are doing AWESOME!!! Keep up the good work. I am proud of you!!!!!!!!!
Susan
Apparently someone forgot to tell your doctor that you have lost 68 lbs... ya hear that Doc 68 lbs.
You are awesome!!!!! and You are a SUCCESS!!!!! I would write the doc a letter to let him know just what a jerk her was and that goals are just that goals. Some are schieved while others aren't. You are closing in on each and every goal. He most likely has one of those bizrre thinking methods where trying to scare someone will motivate them. I say Ptooie on his way of motivating you. Come here to your family. We know how well you are doing and will cheer you on!!!

I would have went clean off on that doctor!!! I to am a little past 3 months out and have only lost 55 lbs. I hate to see what he would have told me!!!??? I have taken myself off my b/p meds because I was so dizzy when I would get up out of a chair. It did help by stopping the meds but I have noticed that my weight lose has slowed down? I know I am not eating like I should and I do try to walk as much as possible. I think it could be time to start excerising. I am feeling great but want the scales to start moving again since they have not moved for a few weeks.
