Some Fantastic Information
I am home safe and sound form the Weight Loss Conference I attended this past weekend. I learned so much at this conference. I had fun, met some great and inspiring people, and soaked up the support. There were peole there like me who are relatively new to this journey, and people who have completed the journey but maintain on their path of success. They had vendors there so you could talk and test some of their products.
The talk by the people from Bariatric Advantage was quite eye opening. I want to get a transcript of the talk as it listed some things we may be expereincing that are a result of some vitamin deficiencies. I assumed since my labs come back okay that I was doing well. some times you aren't tested for various vitamin levels. I for one am having some problems with gry eyes. Vitamin A may be the reason.
One of the best talks was by a nutristionist. he was great. Answered questions so well. He gave one very good bit of advice in determining our food choices. Basically, he suggested that you visualize the food choice being placed in a bucket of water. What will happen to that food when it is mixed with water. If it becomes gummy or gooey- we do to want to make that choice. If it will float in the water it is a good choice. He also demonstrated the manner in which one cn detemine diet and that we should not limit ourselves by calorie alone. He listed 2 meals and broke them down into calories, carbs, fats, etc. Then he had us decide which meal was best. Well, we were allw rong with our choices. AS both meals were good meals. One was chicken with a whole wheat pasta. The other was chicken with a salad and salad dressing. Both had the same calories just some differences in the counts of some of the other nutritional items. Eye opening.
I learned that we should not take our calcium and multi vitamin at the same time. That could very well have something to do with constipation we are experecing. Apparently, they bind together and should be taken 4 hours apart. It is also a myth that our bodies cannot absord more then 30 grams of protein at one time.
My head is swimming from the info.
As I reread the conference matierials, I will update everyone.
Aime
Thank you Aime for the information. Just from what you told us I learned a few things. I definetly did know about the Calcium and the Multi Vitamin and Iron shouldn't be taken with calcium. The Calcium blocks the Iron from being absorbed at least that is what I have been told. I take the Calcium at night by itself. Any other info you would like to share would be great.
I am glad you had a great time. My nut deals only with WLS patients so I have a lot of the informatino you got. Nothin together. Interested in the protein thing though as I have found a lot of research on that. We (hubby and I) were told no more than 30-35 per 1/2 hour of eating. I am interested in what you learn.
Thanks again,
Melissa
