salad
Hi, I was out to my first lunch date on Friday - and ordered a salad and soup - the salad had potatoes in it, gorgonzola cheese and pecans , so my intention was to eat those items, and try a piece or two of the mixed baby greens to see how well I did. Well, I did good, but did not overdo on the greens at lunch; I doggy-bagged it, and had the rest of the salad (most of it) for dinner; it was delicious! I had been dying for salad for so long; my nut says stay away for 6 months; but i did ok. I heard from someone else to stay away from iceberg; go for dark greens; but that's what I heard, they didn't do well with iceberg and that apparently it is harder to digest.
good luck!
My doc allowed me to have salads at 6 weeks out. I love them!!! I just have to figure out how to get more protien in! Chicken, fish and turkey are all I am allowed to have so far and they dont sit well in my stomache! I tried a boca burger recently and they are not too bad. Anyone else have any suggestions on how to get more protien in??
Hi Allison!!
I was advanced to a "normal" diet in early December and was told by my surgeon to begin trying things SLOWLY. I did try salad, but it was mostly iceburg lettuce and that made me quite ill...and has continued to do so every time I've tried it since.
However, I was told by others that baby spinach (and other dark green lettuces) were much easier to digest. I tried the baby spinach and have been happy ever since. Now I have a small salad every day.
BUT, I have to reiterate what one of the others said.....always call your surgeon to make sure of what he/she recommends.
