Questions questions questions...
Hey guys! I have a few questions for you all. I know that we all heal and lose at different weights but I'd like to know how my progress is progressing compared to others who had their surgery around the same time I did.
I had my open RNY on 10/27/06 I am down 63 lbs total, 50 since surgery. I think I could have gotten more down but exercise is limited due to a severe ankle injury. Where are you guys at?
Also, for those of you who had open procedures....are you still having issues with your internal stitches? I feel like mine just aren't healing right. I keep pulling the stitches on the right side of my incision. I'll do laundry or vacuum or do other housework and feel ok but the next day I am in agony. I take it easy till it feels better and then do something to pull them again. I have gone back to wearing my abdominal binder because of the pain since doing some yardwork on Saturday. Any tips or advice???
Howdy Beth,
We certainly all do heal at different rates. I had laproscopic, and while my inscisions are significantly smaller than yours, I can testify that they are not yet 100% healed. I still have issues with the skin around a few of them.
As far as weightloss, that is something else where we are all different. I am currently down 70 pounds (as of this morning) 65 of that since surgery. I lost a HUGE amount of weight in the first week post -surgery, since then it has slowed down to about 3-5lbs a week.
Hi ya!!
I had RNY on 10/2 : I am down -123lbs total, -74 since start of preop diet and -55 since surgery.
I had LAP but still on occasion have a pulling feelings. Been bugging me worse lately I think cuz I started working out harder. Don't really have any tips or advice except that we are probably still healing and just to be careful we don't over do it still.
*huggles*

You are doing wonderful!! Really!! I had surgery 10-4-06 and have lost 55 lbs. (weighed last night and down to 211, just 12 from being in onderland), we all loose diffrently (sp) and so you really shouldn't compare but I do that same thing!
I also had lap RN-Y so my incisions are different and honestly I healed real well..had some pulling at times but did great to well in fact, I had three strictures, which are caused by scar tissue. I am now working out and that makes me feel so good. If I was you I would take it easy until you are completely healed don't take any chances. Take care of yourself!! Keep us informed.
Hi Beth,
I had surgery on 10/18. At the 2 month mark, I was down 55 pounds; I am approaching my 3rd month; so I won't get on the scale again until then!
If you look at my bio, you will see I have had issues with my incision, as well. A week after surgery, developed a seroma; it too****il about 2 weeks ago to finally scab over; but now i noticed this morning, the scab was a little wet again; so I put the gauze pad back over it. Today was my first day back to work.
I did manage to not do anything strenuous at all, to make sure that incision stayed closed. Take it easy; do not pu**** anymore and see what happens. Do you still have stitches in there? I would have thought they would have fallen out by now.
Take care and good luck
Michelle
Everyone else has pretty much answered questions as far as healing is concerned. I healed extra fast for some reason and two days after surgery they had a tough time pulling the stitch out to take the drain out becuase I had already healed around it. LOL go figure.
As far as loss I am down 47 since surgery on the 30th of Oct. So I am a late one and just over 2 months out.
I wish I had more tips for you or advice. I would say just take it easy and let your body tell you what it needs. All the protein we need to eat is for the healing so that will really help as well.
I hope things get better for you soon,
Melissa
Hi Beth!!
Well, the other ladies all addressed the healing issues. I have nothing to add - especially as I had lap RNY. I do have a friend though who had plastic surgery about 6 months ago and she had lots of trouble healing like you are describing. She ended up having to talk to her surgeon about it. So, my best advice is, if you think you are having problems and especially if you are in pain, you need to contact your doctor as there may be a problem.
As for weight loss, I had surgery on 10/2. I have lost 60 pounds from my surgery date and 64 total. So, it sounds like you are "average" with your loss. Hope that helps.

hey guys, thanks for the responses. I had a feeling the weight loss was ok, and I went to a support group meeting and was advised to go see my surgeon. its not the incision itself...that healed amazingly fast. its the internal stiches that run along either side of it about 3 inches away. So..Ill call him tomorrow. Thanks again!
