Hubby has a surgery date
It is FEBRUARY 21ST!!!! He has his pre-op on Feb. 8th. They wanted to do the surgery on the 19th, but our daughters birthday party is on the 17th and he would need to start his liquid diet on the day of the party. I pointed out to him that he would have to do the Fleet in the morning and then would spend some time on the pot for the day, then wouldn't be able to eat anything at the party. I also told him that my days off are Thurs, Fri and Sat, so if he had surgery on Wed, I wouldn't have to take as much time off work to be with him at the hospital. Dave was with me the day of my surgery, but I didn't have anyone at the hospital for me until later in the afternoon the two days after my surgery. I got neglected by the nurses and aides because I was doing well and they needed to care for other people on the floor not doing so well. I will NOT do that to him. I didn't have anyone to help me walk, help me out of bed to the chair, help me to the bathroom. I will be there to help him. So, it is coming up soon. Not too soon, though. We have time to line up sitters and stuff, I guess. I might try to do the liquid diet with him when he gets home. He should only be on it for a few days. If he gets out of the hospital on Friday, he should be on it until he goes to the dr on the following Monday. I'll see.
Wish us luck.
Hugs,
Tabby
tabby that is wonderful news...
feb. 21st is not that far away. as you know, time goes much faster once you get your date than it did while waiting for the approval and the date.
i'm sure you will be a wonderful help to him in the hospital. i know what you mean about being alone and doing well after surgery. i kept thinking i was going home the next day, so i would tell my kids and my sisters and my parents not to bother driving into the city and paying for parking. my husband works long long hours, so he would pop in for about a half an hour at night. he was with me the whole day of my surgery though, of course. i know what you mean about staying with him though... i have stayed with my husband 24/7 the two times that he has been hospitalized. you and your hubby will be in my prayers.
fondly,
patricia
Thanks, Patricia. We have so much going on before then that the time should fly. We have the Superbowl this weekend, then my sister birthday is the 9th, and we have a parent teacher conference that day, too. We have my MIL's birthday and my daughters birthday party to plan and get ready for. Lot's to do. OH, and I'm going to see George Strait on the 17th. I am leaving him the night of his surgery because I have tickets to take the kids to see Monster's Inc on Ice. That was the first movie that Nathan loved. He has probably seen it at least 50 times. He is going to love it. I'm hoping my MIL will go to the hospital to be with him while I am at the show. Or he might be so exhausted he might want to go to sleep. I don't know. MIL is not too excited he is having the surgery. Wasn't happy about mine, either. She is a nurse and worries about the risks. But she does see how well I am doing and is pleased with my progress now.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, we will need them.
Hugs,
Tabby
Congrats on your husbands date. I'm glad you will be able to be there with him. The boy was not able to take that much time away from work or the dog when I had my surgery (I was close to 3 hours away from home), however my mother stayed right there with me the entire time. She is older and was not able to help me out much, but it was so nice knowing there was another body in the room, she did go out and seek out a nurse the one time I needed someone.
That's wonderful Tabby!!! I think its great that you are going to be able to spend some time with him while at the hospital. Pittsburgh is 2 hours away from us and I was concerned about daughter being home alone (even though she is 16! I knew she would be worried about me!) so my husband drove to and from Pittsburgh every day, but my mom never left my side!
Will he have the same surgeon as you or someone else?!

Congrats on hubby's surgery date!! Feb 21 is not far away!! But, you are right, it does give you time to line up sitters and take care of things prior to his surgery. That's good you'll be able to be there with him afterwards. I don't know how I would've managed without my hubby by my side after surgery. It was nice to have someone's hand to hold as I got in and out of bed, someone to talk to as I walked the halls, etc. I know your hubby will appreciate having you there.
Just remember to take care of YOU while he's in the hospital. From experience - hospitals don't have healthy food choices! You'll need to take your own with you. Pack RTD protein and healthy snacks. It will be a life saver for you. Trust me!
Keep us posted on how he's doing!! Oh, BTW, is he having RNY also?

HEY TABBY,
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR HUSBAND GETTING HIS SURGERY DATE. IT'S WONDERFUL THAT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO BE WITH HIM AFTER SURGERY. ONE OF MY COWORKERS AND FRIEND TOOK ME TO THE HOSP. BUT WASN'T ABLE TO STAY DUE TO HER HAVING 3 SMALL CHILDREN. NONE OF MY FAMILY WERE ABLE TO BE W/ ME DUE TO, 1) THE HOSP. WAS 2.5hrs AWAY FROM HOME AND 2) MY MOM HAD JUST BEEN DIAGNOSED W/ STAGE 3 LUNG CANCER AND I DIDN'T WANT HER TO BE HOME BY HERSELF. BUT ALL IN ALL IT WORKED OUT ALL RIGHT. I GOT ALONG FINE. WAS UP WALKING THE NIGHT OF SURGERY AND WAS TRAVELING THE HALLS ALL DAY ON THE FOLLOWING DAY.
I'M SO SORRY MY SISTER NURSES NEGLECTED YOU. DISPITE MORE SICK PATIENTS ON THE HALL EVERYONE DESERVES THE SAME AMOUNT OF CARE AND ATTENTION.
ENJOY THE GEORGE STRAIT CONCERT AND ALL THE BIRTHDAY PARTYS AND SUPERBOWL PARTY.
