a good start to the year
I am determined now that on days I can't get to the gym, I will take a long walk - well, to start, at least two 15-minute intervals without stopping for a break, and increasing as able. Yesterday, I hit a sale and got myself some new workout clothes really cheap - I mean, two pairs of pants and a top for $16 cheap!!
Then, I went to Foot Locker and for the first time in my life, I invested in good walking/running shoes. They were expensive, but worth it, and the guy sold me a second pair that was cheaper, but he sold me special cushions to put inside the shoes. I even let him sell me a can of shoe protector and a bottle of cleaner - he must have thought he hit the lottery!
I also got a new pink gym bag at Target. Big, practical, and girl-y
The gym is closed today, but I had it in my head to walk this morning. I woke up to lots and lots of rain! I did some other things first and looked out the windows a few times. Finally, I thought: what the heck, it's not like I'm going to melt! (heck, if it were that easy, I wouldn't have needed surgery, just walked in the rain!) So, out I went!
I took a longer round about way to the diner for breakfast - a poached egg on whole wheat toast (ate not quite the whole egg and about 1/3 of the slice of toast) - then got coffee to go. I walked away from the direction of my home, went to a nearby park, eventually slowing now and then to take a few sips of coffee, but tossed most of it in the trash.
When I've walked in this park before, which hasn't been often, I've huffed and puffed my way up the small hill, then turned around, rather than go down the steeper side and have to come back up again. This time, I wasn't winded even a little and I just kept going. Then I came out a different way and was completely lost in my own neighborhood! I didn't care, just kept walking, eventually figured out where I was.
So, even with the rain, I have already taken my first big walk of the year. Feeling good!
