Have any of you tired alcohol yet? I know it makes you super drunk now I guess. Didnt take much for me anyways.. One drink and I was wwwoohhhooooo... lol.. Good to go.. Maybe cuz I only had a drink once a year anyway and that was always on New years eve.. I think I am going to pass this year, even on a sip.. Was just wondering if anyone tried it yet? Or if they plan too? Luvs and hugs.. Tiff

RNY on 10/27/06 with
Tiff, my RNY was on 10/27. I had a shot of tequilla...slowly sipped in the 16th of December....just to see how I'd handle it. I had asked my doc about alcohol at my appt the week before. He said a little won't hurt....half a glass of wine on Christmas, some champagne on New Years Eve etc. He said he wouldn't recomend more than that or more frequently till about 6 months out. I got slightly tipsy off of it and felt good. It didn't bug my tummy or hit me too hard. If you want a tiny bit to toast the new year that shouldn't be a problem. Just sip slowly and listen to your body. Avoid sugary alcohols, Peachtree, Pucker, Creme de Menthe, Baileys, Schnapps etc. The sugar will cause more trouble than the alcohol might! Have a happy New year whatever you decide!

Tiff, Just my 2 cents but I was told none at all. Not for a year or so. Reason being that the liver is working overtime to rid your body of all the toxins from the fat and putting something so straight through it could cause damage. Not sure what a little will do but that scared me enough to not want any at all. Not a risk I am willing to take. I guess it is too late to talk to your nut or surgeon but I think your idea to pass is a good one. I know that also anything with bubbles even the carbonation in some wines will reak havoc on your pouchy. Maybe after a year but for me I know I will pass. Maybe like a virgin drink or something! I do not dump on sugar so if you don;t that might be an option. Like a daquiri would not have bubbles. Here I am thinking out load. Good luck and have a very happy new year! Hugs, Melissa

I went to a Christmas party of a friend's and had some eggnog. I took about 2 tablespoons and thinned it with milk. I got a buzz from it. I sipped it very slowly also. Kinda makes me wonder what it may be like when I am okayed to have alcohol again. I was able to drink. In fact, I was one of those people that others tried to outdrink, but couldn't. I guess the irish and scot part of me would shine in that arena. I'm also not saying I was a drinker. This would only occur occassionally when I did go out with frineds. I never have a drink at home. I went to a party at my brother's last night. I could have had a drink, but didn't. I had coffee and water. I also had a blast. You can have a good time without it. Whichever you choose, have fun and be safe!!! Aime

Hi Tiff! My surgeon and NUT both said no alcohol until a year out....so I'm following their instructions. I'm not much of a drinker anyway. Maybe 2-3 times a year, if that! Besides, I'd rather have a cup of s/f apple cider or some hot carnation instant breakfast. I'm ALWAYS cold it seems and love hot drinks. Hope you have a Happy New Year no matter what you decide. My goal is to stay away from alcohol till I'm close to goal weight. I've kept away from sweats and breads and have not cheated at all yet. Wish me Luck to keep it up.

I have been out several times with the gals from my support group which most are over a year out and they drink not many and few have decided to stay completely away from the stuff. Personally I have a great time without it so my plan is to stay completely away from it. I definetly don't need the liver problems. But to each their own. Have a Great New Year!!

I am, right now enjoying my "drink" for New Years Eve, shaved ice, sugar free tropical punch, a splash of light cranberry and a squeeze of lemon. In fact, the bf, knowing I wouldn't be touching champagne tonight, bought himself some hard cider to enjoy instead.
