premenstrual cravings?

I got my period some hours ago. This is the first one since mid-August. I'd figured it was the stress I was under that kept it from coming for a few months, plus I'm 45, so maybe every 28 days isn't going to happen all the time any more. I was so afraid I'd get it at my surgery time - more so, I was afraid I'd get it right after, when I realized how much pain I was in - maybe I willed it away till now! Or maybe I brought it on today by putting brand new sheets on the bed and wearing nice new undies... Anyhow, I totally missed that it was coming. I have had no cramps - and I've always had cramps. I was a bit achy, but I did just add some stuff to my gym workout. But now that I think about it, I was also craving salt and carbs like I had not. No sweets - which is new - Payday was always my favorite pre-menstrual food, as it was both sweet and salty. But I have wanted crackers more than usual these past few days. Has anyone else noticed changes to their periods since WLS? Do you get cravings? How have you handled them? I am also hoping that the slow weight loss I've had recently has been my period working on me, and that I will begin to drop quickly again now...fingers crossed! Lisa

I have feared that surgery would bring my cycles back. I haven't had a real period since I was 35 and I am now 50. I'm sure the slowing has to do with the normal cycle changes we women suffer through. Aime

I totally had craving when that time came. My weight loss stopped and I even gained a lb. YIKES! BUT it was over the day before yesterday and I am happy and relieved to report that not only have the massive cravings for salty crunchy thing gone but I have lost the lb I gained and another three to go with it! YAY!!! Don't be suprised if you even gain a lb. or two. That is totally normal as your body will hang on to all tha****er that we are now drinking. You are not alone at all in this. As for how I survived...I did the pork rinds with ranch dressing or some sort of dip. They are protein (as long as you have like cheese or a protein based dip with them) and it cured the salty crunchy cravings. I hope this helps. The nice thing this time though was the cravings was cured with just two of the pork rinds instead of a whole bag!! It was great!! Feel better soon, Melissa
