I wore one before the surgery because of diabetes and pcn allergy. I got a new one to add RNY and endoscopic ng tube placement. I think it is a good thing to have because if you are every in a medical situation where you can't speak for yourself the medic alert can provide a lot of information to the medical professionals treating you. My braclet is from the actual Medic Alert company so they have my whole hx on file. Elizabeth

I got mine from American Medical ID - http://www.americanmedical-id.com I got a plain silver link bracelet with a charm that says: My Name RNY Gastric Bypass No Blind NG Tube Doctor's Name/Hospital Doctor's Phone Number Btw, I was told that you should specify what type of gastric bypass you had (RNY, VBG, DS, etc.) because that can affect their next step especially if you NEED an NG tube. I didn't have room to specify no NSAIDS or sugars, etc. I figure I can deal with a dump or a NSAIDS (worst that would happen would be an ulcer), but a blind NG tube could rupture my pouch, cause a leak and kill me. Now that's a priority! LOL
