Peanut Butter cups
This is sort of off topic, but I thought it was kinda funny in gastric - bypass - humor sort of way...
I have sworn off anything with refined sugar / high fructose corn syrup / etc since the day of my surgery and today, I ate a Reese's Peanut Butter cup and it was the most DISGUSTING thing I have ever tasted in my LIFE!!!!
I just thought I would share because those used to be my favorite candy and the whole awful experience is very symbolic of just how much I have changed and how different my tastes have become. My boyfriend and I always get a kick out of grocery shopping because I used to say "ummmmmmmmm", and "yuuuuuuuuuuuuuum", and "That looks SO good" in the snack isle, and now he has to practically drag me away from the fruits and veggies! I am really starting to be glad I made the decision to have the surgery... deep down happiness.
ROFLMAO! I so hear you on this!!! I ordered some specialty candy for my sons Christmas Count Down bags and it was all novelty candy that I grew up on. OMG it looked so good but it was so funny to see that as good as it looked I never once had the urge to actually sample it. BUT on the flip side of that I went ga ga over an order I have coming for dried porcini mushrooms lmaoo. They just sounded so much better to eat.
I am tickled how my tastes have changed. I really though that it would be hard to fight my head but its actually been pretty easy. The only challenge I have had is like snack cracker type things and I figured out fast I had no stop on them so I threw them out and will only bring in the house now things I know I wont eat but that the guys will.
Great post!

I am there with you on the junk food thing. The chocolate thing though I can not say. It is "that time" rght now and chocolate is calling me. I had one small pece and it was like heaven. I am just trying to look at it as one piece and not a whole bag deal though. You are soooooo lucky that you do not like it anymore. I am that way with most sweets. I can not stand the taste of crystal light which before I had no problem with. Even now though it s way to sweet. Even 1/2 and 1/2 with water is too sweet. love the fruts and veggies though. I never useed to lke brussel sprouts and now I love them. And better yet them seems to like me! YAY!! As we all will agree anything that likes us is a plus. I can relate on behalf of my hubby too. He was a 1-2 liter a day soda drinker and now he does not even have the slightest craving for it. We never thought that could happen! Fruits are my friend now as far as sweets and treats go. And veggies...yesterdeay at work I took 1/2 an avacoda and mixed it with a little sea salt some garlic powder and some pepper and tomatoes and I thought I was in heaven. OMG YUMO!!!! I am glad to know I am not the only one out there that loves the fruts and veggies. I am jelous for you choc tooth though that seems to have fallen out. I wish mine would!
I am so glad you are having such a great tme......and I am so glad you are glad to have had your surgery...I too am finally starting to feel the same way!!!
Hugs,
Melissa
ps....sorry for the rambling having kindof a tough day.
Here here WLS sister!
I'm still terrified to even try sugar as I don't know if I dum*****t - and don't want to find out.
I really have no craving for sweets. I made about 5lbs of chocolate bark over the weekend and never even once licked my fingers.
However, foods which I labeled as "gross" before....zuccini, mushrooms etc....have become my veggies of choice in some of my culinary creations, they are sooooooo good!
Mandy!!
WTG on kicking that chocolate carb monster to the curb!! I agree with you on things tasting disgusting that were once soooooooo good. I made brownies for my hubby's birthday and tasted just a crumb (seriously) and it was horrible! I had to rinse out my mouth it was so horrible. And, I once LOVED brownies.
Now, give me veggies and protein. I'm not much into the fruits yet. My doc wants me to wait before I eat too many of them. Although I do love putting banana in my shakes. Just makes it go down better.
I agree, this surgery is WONDERFUL!!!! Glad you are deep down happy. It's a great feeling.

It is weird how our tastebuds change. I have made chocolate milk for my kids and took a sip and almost dumped it out because it tasted like the milk was bad or something. I used to chug down some chocolate milk in my day. Hee Hee. I would love to try a peanut butter cup. MMMmmmm!!! I have had a few pieces of chocolate here and there and have been ok. Maybe a hershey kiss at a party, but not 1/2 a bag. I do notice that things that are too sweet upset my tummy. I have not pushed it to see if I will dump.
I really need to get into the produce section at the grocery store. I mainly eat my protein and am bad about getting in my veggies and fruits. Definately not balancing any meals yet. I need work on that.
Glat to hear that you are happy with your decision to have the surgery. I truely do think it has been awesome for me so far.

Well, for me, it just that what I used to feel towards desserts and candy has completely switched to fruits and veggies. I think it is because my senses of taste and smell have sharpened since the sugery... probably because all the garbage that was in there was cleaned from the liquid diet, etc... sort of like detox. I can taste every little nuance of what I eat / drink. For instance, if I have a bottle that I put Crystal Light in, and then I fill with water (Even AFTER the bottle has been thouroughly washed and rinsed) I can still taste the Crystal Light in it, or if there is just a dash I salt, I taste it as if there is a whole tablespoon. Its very weird.
And its more than taste with fruits and veggies. To me they LOOK beautiful (like the eggplants and zucchini in my favorite organic store). Or when you cut them up or take a bite they smell SO GOOD! And honestly, I can't ever remember a piece of cheesecake or a peanut butter cup really smelling good or filling all my senses. I mean they smell like what they are, but the smell wasn't as intense or enveloping I guess. Does that even make any sense? lol My boyfriend thinks I am so weird when I say this stuff about food
Oh man, I can't imagine eating anything sweet. I dump so easily and have avoided anything with sugar. The other day, I tried a bite of cake, no icing, just cake and I was in the bathroom within ten minutes. I only tried it because my friend made it and it was homemade and there was little sugar in the cake part. How did you ever keep the peanut butter cup down?
