Ok so I have been worried that I am not losing as fast as I am supposed to be. So like a good girl I email my Bariatric Counselor to see what the average is for someone who has had RNY to lose a week. Now I understand every one is different and so its just an average but she replied back that 10-15lbs A WEEK was the average. WHOLEY CRAP I am no where near that. She did say that was counting someone what was doing some kind of work out but still its got me FREAKED OUT! I am NO where near that. Not even HALF of that! Ok so I don't spend hours in the gym every day but I do, either walk on the treadmill every day or trade it out for the 1 to 1.5 miles Walk Away The Pounds videos. But good gravy I am just in shock. My 5 pound loss this last week looks terrible now to me. Geez talk about fighting the "failure" feelings. The sad part is that I kept telling myself when I would see all these people posting 50 and 60 and 70 pound losses that I shouldn't worry about it after all "everyone is different" but ACK now I am worried. I put myself through this and now I am even failing at this!!! *insert not so nice word here*. Ya ya I am losing. But right now I am not seeing the good in it I guess. Just had to cry a bit to those who will understand. Thanks for reading. Felicia =(

Now see, my doc. told me that most patience experience 10 - 20 lb. loss PER MONTH. That is much different than what you were told. Everyone is different! Every pound lost per month is a pound we will never see again.

Dang girl...that would discourage me too. My doc also said 10-15 lbs a MONTH was the average. In fact I was down 16lbs at my 2 week appointment and he said that I was ahead of the game. I wouldn't worry about seeing where you stack up with everyone else. You are doing great for you....(of course I know this is easier said than done, since I find myself getting discouraged when I see what everyone else has lost at two months out). We love ya girl and you ARE doing great!!!! ~Blessings~ Halona

Put down that fudge! My doc says that most people experience a 10-15 pound loss in the first week or two following surgery then it settles to 3-5 pounds per week average. Three pounds per week for women and 5 pounds per week for men. As with any average, there will be folks who are above average and some who are below average. That's how you get the average. Don't stress over it. Just enjoy the ride. Annette

Felicia, sweetie!!! I think your counsellor had a typo!!! I asked my surgeon the same question and his reply was...we don't look at it on a weekly basis, we tend to look at the average loss per month... So, I asked what the average per month should be for a woman and his reply was 10-15 pounds per MONTH. So, don't be discouraged. YOU ARE NOT FAILING!!!! Just in case you didn't get that....let me repeat... YOU ARE NOT FAILING!!!! Look how much you have lost. Look how great you feel. Look at the things you can do. You are a SUCCESS!!!! Don't even think that you aren't. And, to top it all off, you are an inspiration to me every day. I'm sure lots of the other posters and lurkers here can say the same thing about you. So, get off your own back. That five pound loss this week was FABULOUS! Keep up the good work!!!! You are doing GREAT!!! Susan (getting off my soapbox now....)
