Another "weigh" to look at it...

Every once in a while I get stressed over the fact that I am not losing "this week" or "that week" so I found another "weigh" to look at it. Averages. Instead of looking just at each weeks ( or what ever you do ) weigh in loss ( or lack there of). Look at it over an average. For example: This is my weight loss since my pre surgery diet started ( 2 weeks before surgery day ). 9/17/06 - 378 10/02/06 - 359 - 19 10/16/06 - 343 - 16 10/23/06 - 337 - 6 10/30/06 - 334 - 3 11/6/06 - 332 - 2 11/13/06 - 331 - 1 11/20/06 - 327 - 4 11/27/06 - 322 - 5 12/4/06 - 319 - 3 12/11/06 - 319 - 0 12/18/06 - 314 - 5 When you look at it like this its kind of sad. HUGE losses at first and then a struggling up and down thing since then. BUT if you average it over the number of weeks there are you get an average weekly loss of 4.9 lbs!! May be a " head game " with myself but hey it helps me get though the low weeks lol. Besides I can't remember a diet I have ever been on that I steadily lost over 4 lbs a week on and KEPT IT OFF! lol Anyways just though I would share a thought I had. *huggles* Felicia =)

I hate the up and down struggle, but I've been looking more at the overall weight lost myself. You're doing great!

I hate it to... Steady would be nice lol but I guess it just doesn't work that way. Last we was a real downer when I didn't lose anything ( the old I am a failure feelings come back fast) but when I plugged it into fitday I noticed it gave me an average and I thought HEY that is a great way to look at it. Even pre surgery starting in January I had tried really hard to lose weight before making the final decision to have WLS. There were a LOT of ups and downs lol but when I look at the average for the whole year I have lost just over 2 lbs A WEEK all year long. Made me feel pretty good lol. Thanks!! You are doing really wonderful yourself!! *huggles* Felicia =)

I so agree with you. I am obsessed with the scale. Thanks to my hubby who gets on it every morning....so do I. But I have learned that I really have to sit back and look at the whole picture. I am averaging like a lb a day. So when I look at it tht way I like it much better. Plus you are sooo right.....it is never coming back!!!! Best part about it!!! Melissa

Exactly!!!!! I couldn't live with out my scale but I am working really hard at not getting on except for Mondays ( ok so some times I peek on Sundays but still lol ). Not so much cuz I am neurotic about it just that it keeps me on track. I am a planner lol I like to know whats going on so I can plan what way to turn next if some thing goes left lol. It keeps me from stressing to bad anyways. Thats why I love the average thing. When I start to panic over a small loss or no loss I can look over the average and play a head game with myself that seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee you are still LOSING!! When I hit my goal of around 150 I may gain I may not but I will NEVER EVER see 300 ANYTHING ever again on the scale. For that matter I will NEVER EVER see 200 ANYTHING on the scale either lol. *BIG HUGS* Felicia =)

I think it may be a good thing that I don't own a scale. I have to wait to see the doctor for a weigh in. Aime

LOL I would have to wait 6 months to find out what I weigh. OMG I would go insane!! I see my PCP in January but her scale sucks!! Last time I was in there it said I weighed 80lbs different then I did. Not very reliable. I told her it was a shame that I was going to have to buy the clinic a good scale as they couldn't seem to come up with under a 100 bucks for a working scale. Last time I was in there was over 3 years ago and it was the SAME BROKEN SCALE. I hate this clinic.. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE my PCP so I suffer with the crappy scale lolol. I bow to your amazing patience!!! *huggles* Felicia

Felicia!!! You are doing really well...and finding a new "weigh" to look at it is fantastic. I use fitday too and always log in my weight. I love the graph that shows how much you've lost...and seeing it go down, down, down, continually is just wonderful. Even though there are weeks where it is a flat line, it never goes back UP. And, like you, I love using the average. It keeps my head where it needs to be. I figure as long as it's showing at least a 4 pound loss per week average I'm doing what I need to do to meet my goals. Unlike you, I have to weigh every day. I can't go an entire week without checking. Even though I know I'd love to see the BIG drop. I know that for myself after I've met goal I will need to keep a daily check to make sure I don't regain the weight. That's what happened to me 14 years ago after I had child #1. I stopped weighing every day...and packed the pounds on fast. And, after having 3 more kids over 5 years, the pounds were here to stay...until WLS, that is. So, knowing my body, I know this is a habit I need to develop for my continued success. Just some random thoughts there..... Didn't mean to go on and on.... Susan

LOL I WANT to weigh everyday but I am trying ( and I used that word losely ) to be come less obsessive over it lolol. It works great when there is a big drop at the end of the week but MAN its ugly when there isn't one lol. You wait all week for the prize and all you get is the lump of coal lol. *big hugs* Felicia =)

My first three weeks, I lost 10 - 16- 10 lbs...when, the fourth week, I only lost 4 lbs, I was on the brink of a panic attack. I was afraid the weight loss was stopping already and it was going to start going back on. One of our program's surgeons was at the last support group meeting, where I brought that up. He explained that the scale isn't always an accurate measure of what's going on inside us. We could be having a "fat" week, where we are retaining water, or any number of other things that are keeping the scale from moving. Another week, when we have a huge loss, this could just be our bodies catching up. His good advice was to just keep doing what we're supposed to be doing and it will work. Lisa
