Anyone else have problems with salad?

I've tried salad (lettuce) a couple of times since surgery and can not tolerate it. It doesn't make me but it does give me the foamies big time. Does anyone else have thir problem or are you able to eat it? How long have you been able to eat salad? This is really driving me crazy because I LOVE salad and wish I could eat it. Susan

I have only tried it once. It didn't like me and I have been to chicken to try it since lol. I figure I will try it again come spring *grin*. *huggles* Felicia =)

Felicia... I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with problems! I posted on another board and got replies saying they were able to eat salad no problems from 9 days out to 6 weeks out. Made me feel defective! Susan

LOLOL well I highly doubt you are defective lolol As my surgeon tells me every time I see him... "You can't go by others because everyone is different. PERIOD" But I so know how you feel. I don't honestly know if I can eat it now or not but I do know that it will be a while before I try again. *grin* *huggles* Felicia =)

LOL Felicia!! Thanks for the kind words. Although, I do feel defective most days when it comes to eating. It's strange. Do you find yourself thinking about food more now than you ever did before? I have never given so much thought and time and effort to what I eat as I do now. Strange....but wonderful at the same time. I agree with your surgeon. After reading all the different posts, I see how different everyone's journeys is...but then again, they are all similar. Especially people who have had surgery around the same time. Guess that's why I like coming to this message board. I'm with you on when I try again. It's going to be a while before I attempt salad/lettuce again. Just do not want to go thru the foamies again for a while. To me, they are worse than Susan

yup I think about food all the time now. But not in the same way I used to. Before I used to think of it all day and all night cuz I was "starving". Now its a matter of making sure I get meals in, protein in and coming up with something "new" to try lol. I have only run into a couple things that have kicked my hiney. There is enough other food out there in the world that I will just work my way though that before going back to what kicked my previously *grin*. *huggles* Felicia =)

It might depend on the type of salad that you tried. I tried some bites of romain lettuce and it was ok but at my hubbys Christmas party they had like a spring mix variety with baby greens and such and that did not go over well. I think it was really because they did not break down as much. I too love salad and was dying to try it and was cleared after a month from the doc for it but have only tried it once. Maybe try a different kind? Melissa

Hi Melissa!! Thanks for the idea. Maybe I'll try some baby spinach in a month or so. Not willing to try it too soon - especially after yesterday's chickfila fiasco. But, I hadn't thought about trying a different type of lettuce. I've been cleared for it for a while now too, but every time I try it has been a bad thing. Susan

I was cleared for salad last week. I haven't had any problems with it so far. I picked up a bag of my favorite salad, "Very Veggie" , and began to enjoy. I am not adding more then a few drops of dressing. I never was big into a salad drowning in dressing. Try again. I hope it works next time. Aime

Hi Aime, Glad to see you have been able to eat salad. Next time you have one, think of me and take a special bite in my honor, please. Like you, I don't like my drowning in dressing. I like enough to taste, but that's it. My dad, who is diabetic, dips his fork in the dressing and then salad. That's what I plan to do if and when I can eat salads again. Until then, I'll let you enjoy them for me. Susan
