Problems eating out...

Okay, nothing bad about Chick-fil-a. I LOVED it pre-op. Went there as often as I could. STILL love the way it tastes. Wish my pouch did!! Yesterday, my son had his orthodontics appt which is right across the street from Chick-fil-a. His appt was at noon, so we were all hungry. The kids LOVE to eat there, so as soon as possible, we drove over to have lunch before going Christmas shopping and then grocery shopping. Big, bad mistake! Ordered for the kids and got a bottle of water and some tenders for myself. I had forgotten to bring water with me and knew I needed to have it for later when we were out shopping. So, since I hadn't tried eating there since surgery I decided to take it easy and just eat a couple of bites. No problem. So, I finished my first tender.....problem!!! I gave the kids my tenders and handed money to the oldest. "Please go get me a cup of soup" I requested. He did. I am really cautious at this point. The pouch had settled down....so I took a small spoonful of soup - mostly broth. Hmmmm......took another.....and stopped. Now...I can see why the tender was bad....but the soup too? How unfair!! As the kids finished eating, I spent the next 20 minutes in their restroom. Most of it came up....but not all. So, after we left, I had foamie problems for about the next 30-45 minutes. HAD to shop though for my Mom's present as I have to mail it to TN. Found her gift and came home. Once we got here, I laid down and slept for about 2 hours. After that, I felt better...but not well enough to eat. So, I just had protein shakes for the rest of the day. Today, I'm still not really in the mood for food. Seems like when I do this, it takes it a couple of days for my pouch to be happy again and ready for food. Oh well, live and learn.... Susan

My guess is that the soup wasn't bad it was cuz you followed the tender with the soup. I had a grouchy tummy yesterday to. No matter what I ate or drank UGGG I was punished. seems to be fine today though lol Who knows it must have been in a "mood". *hugs* I feel for you!! Its like a hit and miss game most days. Felicia =)

Hi Felicia... I agree....it's a hit and miss game every day. What's crazy is what goes down well one day, doesn't the next. It's so confusing....but I wouldn't trade it for the way life was before WLS!!! Susan

Man oh man you can say that again. The ups and downs of learning to eat again are NOTHING compared to being the way we were before. I will take any complication that may come my way, any day, over living like I was. *huggles* Felicia =)

Oh man how aweful. I love chick-fil-a. There are not really out here in Jersey that are convenient so I have not been since. Will have to wait till I get back to CO. I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. Sounds like maybe it might have been the breading though. If chicken was safe before that might be what it was. They are deep fried as well. Oh man now just talking about it I can taste it. In high school that was the place to work and all my friends worked there so we did a ton of eating there. I love their lemonade as well. I would agree though that is prob was not the soup just that the soup did not like following in the footsteps of the chicken. I am jelous that you can eat a whole chicken strip though. I can not seem to get that much down yet. We went out to eat this morning and I got the popcorn shrimp basket and just peeled the breading off. I ate about 10 of the little tiny suckers and brought the rest home. everyone talking so much about shrimp I decided to try it and it is now my friend! YAY!!! I really hope that things improve throughout the day. I am tired of the one day and not the next thing but as Felicia said I would not trade it for how things were before. I am loving the weight loss and you are doing so awesome! I hope you feel better and tell grouchy pouchy to be nice to you. Hugs, Melissa

Hi Melissa... Well, their chicken strips aren't really that big. Maybe an 1-1.5 ounces at most. I'm able to eat between 2-4 ounces now easily, depending on what I'm eating. As long as I take my time and chew really well...and if the pouch likes it, that is. The tenders really aren't breaded, more like seasoned and deep fried. Maybe it's the oil they use? Who knows... I agree with you and Felicia....I would not go back to the way things were before!! Even with the and everything that goes with it. Life on the losing side is SO worth it. BTW, sorry I made you start wanting Chick-fil-A. Don't do it!!!! Susan

OK here is another thought with the chicken thing. I can not believe I did not think of this before. When we order chicken strips we always make sure and dip them in something. Not sure if you did but maybe too they were too dry. Ya never know I guess. Chicken is sooooo my friend and by far the easiest thing on my tummy and has been since day one so now I am gong to have to find a chick-fil-a out here. I love their polonesian sauce. Not sure how that would go over now though. Only one way to find out though. YUMO!!!!!!! Melissa

Hi Melissa... No, I didn't dip it and yes, it was dry!! Might have been the problem...along with the couple of waffle fries I forgot about snitching from my sons box. OOPS!! Oh well...either way, it wasn't a pleasant experience. Not planning to go back anytime soon. I'm so glad you are able to eat chicken without problems. The only chicken that has truly gone down easily has been the rotisserie chicken from the grocery store...and even then I had to be careful. Susan

Susan, I was told to leave at least 30 minutes between solid foods and liquids. I forgot that recently and took a drink of water after a few bites at a diner and...ohdeargodkillmenow! I find that once a food comes up, everything comes up for the rest of the day, including water...ugh! The next day I am dying of thirst! Lisa

Lisa, I was told the same thing. Only I cheat a little sometimes and have a tiny tiny sip if what I'm eating is too dry.....which I've learned is a BAD thing for my pouch. The food being too dry, that is. It doesn't stay down very well either. Or gives me the foamies really bad. I'm like you too. Once something comes up, I have problems the rest of the day and sometimes the next also. This has been one of those days. Grouchy pouch all day today. I've been doing mostly liquids and soft foods today to help it settle down. I'm hoping tomorrow I can eat again. Although, I'm not hungry. I've learned that if I don't eat - or don't eat enough - I get really tired and just generally don't feel well. So, I try really hard to get in at least 600 calories and 60 grams of protein per day as well as my 64 ounces of fluids. Not an easy thing...but if I don't, it's not pretty. Susan
