Pleasing the other senses

I made another discovery when I was on my mini-vacation. I'd been wandering around outside on the beach and my senses were buzzed...the ocean smell and the cold air on my face and the sound of the waves. I went inside a shop to make a phone call and they had hot apple cider for free. I asked if any sugar had been added to it, and as it had not, I decided to have some. Still, it's cider, so I couldn't just have a mug full of it. They had small paper cups, so I filled one about a third of the way and took it out with me. I just had a few sips, didn't fini****But, what I found was that holding that warm cup in my cold hands, inhaling the scent of that apple cider while the steam warmed my nose was supremely satisfying! I didn't really need to drink a cup of it. I got the experience I was craving through sense of smell and touch. I think a lot of people with big appetites for food also have big appetites for life in general and for all the pleasures of the senses. From now on, I will slow down and ask myself just what it is I truly want...I'm betting it won't always be the food itself, but the experience of what is connected to the food. Lisa

Thanks, Patricia. I did go in November and the December meeting is NOT cancelled! It is being held on Dec 20 at 5:30pm. I believe it's being combined with the one year out group. Contact Jim for more info. Hope to see you there. Lisa

I, too, have noticed heightened senses since my wls. Foods taste better. My sense of smell is so much stronger. Sometimes I wish I didn't smell what I do... but oh well. Sounds like you had a wonderful wintertime activity. Aime

Yup things are so different now. Things taste better ( or worse ) things smell better ( or worse ). I find that I am not willing to settle for cheap junk type foods when I eat so little I want it to be a dreamy bite instead lol. Sounds like you had a wonderful time! *huggles* Felicia =)

Felicia, I know what you mean. We can eat so little, I want it to be GOOD and of good quality. Why settle for less than the best? I'm having the same sensations too....heightened sense of smells both good and bad....taste is the same way. I wonder why that is? Or, is it just one of those things that makes you go Hmmmmm????? Lisa, thanks for this post. I loved the way you phrased it.... People with big appetites for food have big appetites for LIFE. I agree. And, I'm enjoying life to the fullest each day. Here's to life after WLS!! Susan

Yup exactly!! Its so strange as to before surgery I would have just bought what ever was on sale or cheapest cuz I could get more of it. Now I don't mind buying more expensive, high quality ingredients knowing that 1. they will last a long time and 2. they will taste so much better for the 3-4 bites of it I get to eat lol. I vote for one of those things that make you go hmmmmmmmm lololol Sweet smells get me the worse. Savory not so bad. Ahh you just reminded me I need to get to the health food store lol I want to try and make GOOD homemade chai tea with all the "real" spices instead of in a tea bag lol. Don't ask me what just made me think of that lol. *hugs* Felicia
