This is my first post on this board, although i have been reading up on everyone here since my surgery at the end of october. My problem is that after i eat my dinner i have been throwing up the last few days, i hardly eat and i'm 6 weeks out and still eating very soft food and chewing it well - not even eating and drinking at the same time. My friends are starting to think i'm developing bulemia - is this possible?

My question would be "What are you eating?" Even though it is soft, it may not make your puch too happy. I dumped on tuna fish. I will still throw up after eating. I think sometimes it is because I eat to fast. I doubt thrat you are developing bulemia, but contact your doctor. Something else could be going on that is casuing your problem. Hope you feel better. Kathryn, I definetely agree that you should talk to your Dr. You never know what can be happening but I would also ask what you are eating. I can still not handle tuna fish, eggs, and salmon as well. You had surgery the same day that I did so do not worry that you are not eating much. I do not eat much either. THe 2 year old that I take care of eats more than I do at this point LOL. It is good that you are not eating and drinking at the same time and also do watch how fast you are eating. I know from watching my husband go through this as well that eating too fast alone can make you throw up. I know it is hard when you are with a group of people and they are all eating normally (speed wise) and you are stuck eating slow. This too will pass and you will feel more normal as time goes on. My hubby no longer feels like he eats any differently than other people. Just think. If you were someone that ate slow anyway no one would care so they sould not care now just because it is from surgery. Are you throwing up only with dinner or wither every meal? I know that when I was having problems also something to look at was the time in between eating. If I went to long than it really seemed to be bad as well. I do not think that you are developing bulemia. I was scared of that too as I had the dry heaves for 2 weeks and it was horrible but it has passed and I am sure yours will as well. Take care and let me know how you are doing. Hugs, Melissa

COULD BE WHAT YOU ARE EATING THAT IS MAKING YOU THROW UP. HAVE YOU TRIED OTHER SOFT FOODS? CALL YOUR NUT AND ASK WHAT THEY CAN OFFER AS WHAT YOU COULD TRY TO EAT. MAKE SURE YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR FORK/SPOON DOWN BETWEEN BITES AND CHEW REALLY GOOD AND THEN WAIT SOME MORE BEFORE PICKING UP THAT FORK/SPOON AGAIN AND SEE IF THAT HELPS YOU. I AM STILL THROWING UP AT TIMES AND IT IS ON FOODS THAT HAVE GONE DOWN OK BEFORE. SO IT COULD BE JUST EATING TO FAST. BUT PLEASE CALL YOUR DR AND NUT TO SEE WHAT THEY TELL YOU. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!!!! GOOD LUCK!! HUGS JUDY

Kathryn, the question of bulemia is one only you can ansewer...are you throwing up because you feel you shouldnt have eaten what you just ate, that eating will keep you fat? Or are you throwing up because your body is rejecting the fods you are putting into it and you are ill from it? If it is the laterthen you are fine. Any of the former and I'd see my psychologist... I am 6 weeks out and have tolerated everything very well, I skipped the pureed stage for the most part and just chewed my solid meats well...very well. So I really can't offer much advice on that front. I can tell you that I hope things improve for you very quickly!

As others have already said : I would say yes if you are throwing up for fear of gaining weight from eating and no if you are throwing up as a physical reaction to something you ate ( ie: ate to fast or didn't chew well). Let us know what your doctor has to say ok! Best wishes to you! *huggles* Felicia =)

Once again i want to thank you all for welcoming me as a 'newbie' to this board, as to the issue of bulemia nervosa, i have been informed that i am eating the correct amounts, the correct types, ectra. For as dumb as i feel for admitting this i don't want to keep the food i eat in my stomache because i don't want to gain weight and i want to lose as quickly as possible. I am aware of all of the ugly side effects of throwing up what i've been eating (ie hair teeth and nails being destroyed) I can't begin to figure out if it's my fault for being now obsessed with my weight and body image or if it's the ideals society has placed on us to be beautiful and thin. I would like to see a psychrist or psychologist but my insurance is running out in the end of december. I am also bipolar and am not currently on any medication, i wonder if this has something to do with it joined with my high insecurity levels with myself and my body???
