im 5 weeks out and have tried different foods, no luck with anything really, i have no desire to eat because when i do, i get sick. I can handle the soft pureed foods, but would rather not eat because im bored with them, anyone else have this problem and how do you deal?

I hear you on the bored with what I'm eating. I need to branch out more but seem to get stuck in ruts when I find foods that work lol. I don't have to much problems with just about any kind of food but more of a problem with how I fix the foods. Lately I have been living on Wendy's chili and Shrimp lol. I do have a bite now and then of other things. Like for lunch today I had a couple Frito chips and some home made guacamole. But usually I just stick to the basics. I do find that I stand in front of the frig a lot more now actually then before surgery as I just cant think of or find something that says "eat me" lol. Hubby wanted to bring home dinner last night and I was just totally blank on what to have him get as nothing really sound worth paying money for especially since I can only have a bite or two of it anyways lol. I find its super hard to find something to eat now. I would rather just skip it all together. I am hungry *shrug* just not in the mood? I guess to eat? Not sure that makes sense lol but anyways I feel where you are coming from. Guess I need to break down and break out the cook books and see what I can come up with. Good luck!! *hugs* Felicia

I have always lost hair all the time lol so it wasn't till this past weekend that I noticed it coming out "more than usual". But I have super thick and curly hair so it will actually be nice to lose some of it lol. I hope though it doesn't get super thin. I am doing pretty good with getting a good amount of protein (thank goodness for shakes and RTD's ) in so I have high hopes I wont lose a ton of it, at least all at once *grin*. Even if I do though I don't care. It will grow back and heck its winter lol thats what hats are for *giggle*. I have cheddar cheese sticks as a snack. Fill me up fast but are nice to just munch on. *hugs* Felicia =)

I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you, but I know what you are talking about. Sometimes I don't feel like eating because nothing sounds good to me. I have been drinking a protein shake for breakfast to boost my protein. I have been adding a little vanilla extract and tonight added a dash of cinnamon. They are tasting much better to me. I have also been freezing ice cube trays of skim milk to use in my protein shakes to make them slushy and boost the protein, rather than adding real ice cubes and watering them down. At my 4 week appt my dr told me that if I am getting an upset stomach before 6 weeks, it is more than likely the stomach still healing, rather than the food not agreeing with me. I couldn't believe it, but after 6 weeks, I am doing so much better with different foods. At about 5 weeks I was able to eat sloppy joe meat, imitation crab, chili, taco meat mixed with refried beans and cheese and a little sour cream, cocoa wheats, rotisserie chicken (very moist), pureed homemade veggie soup was awesome with a crushed cracker in it. Now I am eating fish ( I buy the Gorden's Grilled Fillets), shrimp (cooked and peel and eat), chicken, tuna and even had steak the other day and kept it down. I can eat about anything now. Still get bored, because I am trying to get in my protein and can't eat things I am really craving, but much better than a month ago. Good luck. Hang in there. It won't be much longer before you can eat a wide variety of foods. Hugs, Tabby

I had the same problem. I ended up having to find a way to get creative about what I can eat. I surfed on Amazon and found a few cookbooks designed for post WLS diets. Now, when I cook, I try one of the recipies - I stick w/ a meat source that I know won't bother me (mostly shrimp, lean ground beef, turkey, chicken thighs (not the breasts yet...ouch)...etc. After I have eaten my portion, and my bf has had plenty, I weigh out the leftovers and freeze them. That way - I have options, lots of options waiting for me on those times I don't want to eat. I also keep string cheese on hand, that is really the only other thing I ever feel like eating - so that is breakfast for me. I'm working on learning to drink protein shakes, but I really REALLy don't like them. I may try one of the softer protein bars instead at some point this week - just to see if they are any better.

I am so right there with you. I have no desire to eat at all. I literally have to force myself to eat something. Nothing ever sounds good to me at all. Early on I did have a desire but then got a stomache bug and then a kidney stone and since I have NO desire to eat at all. Tried cottage cheese today and that was a no for some reason yet yesterday I had chicken and it went over just fine. I seem to be unusual that white meat is ok with me. Still have to make sure it is really moist but it settles better than the things that typically should. I am one of the few who can not do the wendys chili. Wish I could it would be great but it just does not work at all. As for how do I deal with it.....well I just try something else and see if it works. I watched my hubby go through it earlier this year and that was what worked for him. Like you I often throw up yet atually nothing comes up. Just the dry heaves. I used to really like the pintos and cheese from taco bell but there has been an ecoli outbreak in jersey here so I will not be going there for a long long while. LOL I wish you the best....and thank you for posting. It helps to know I am not the only one who has this. Melissa
