I am NOT normal....am I?
Hi! I just had open RNY on 10/27/06. I came home from the hospital on 10/30 was off the pain meds by 11/2 and only on Tylenol occasionally.I was back at my Saturday night Karaoke by the 4th!!! I was switched from liquids to protein purees on 11/13 and have had only 1 food make me uncomfortable...bacon bits in scrambled eggs. I have had no trouble getting my meds and supplements in or my fluids.
The day after Thanksgiving will be 1 month out and I am feeling great!!! So many of you have been miserable for at LEAST the 1st month. I feel like a freak!! I find myself wondering if my surgeon just cut my belly and left everything inside intact.....except for the fact that I'm not hungry and when I do eat, I get full on 2 oz!!! Seeing that so many of you are/were miserable makes me thank my lucky stars that I am having such an easy time...I wish we all could.
Now that you are all grinding your teeth and thinking"that lil chit.. "....I wish you all a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I think you sound normal and lucky *grin*. Not everyone has a terrible time right off. A LOT of people fly through just like you. Sadly though it seems that most that post are the ones having problems and not the ones that say *DANG I FEEL GOOD* lol. But hey thats what this place is for right. The good AND the bad. So keep on bringing that great news!
I had a rough start due to a reaction over the drain I had in. After that came out I flew through recovery with flying colors. I also have very little trouble with any type of food or liquid. There are things I tried that my taste buds didn't like lol but not much my tummy hasn't gladly taken in. I also have not taken any pain meds since a week home from surgery except for that time of the month, survival is a must there fore, I took pain meds lmaoo.
I am thrilled to see it has been such a wonderful experience for you!!!
*hugs*
Felicia
Oh lol and I love bacon bits ( actually I get the real bacon bits ) but I like it on cottage cheese for breakfast. Talk about not normal lmaooo
Hi Beth,
That's awesome that you are doing so well! I felt really good after my surgery and wa****ting the elliptical trainer at one week out. I had to try to restrain myself from doing too much because I felt so good. Some people heal better than others. There are so many different factors that contribute to our healing process.

Hi Beth,
Normal? What is normal? Such a silly word! I don't think there is any normal in how this trip goes...but it is nice to see some posts about others doing so well...I was starting to feel guilty. I too have had a very easy ride. I have eaten 4 ozs of food at a time from the start, have never gotten sick, have felt great...I was walking the halls 3 hours after I got into my hospital room, didn't even realize I had a catheter in until they talked about taking it out, and took pain meds twice after I got home. I too was thinking, "what did they really do in there???" But yes, it is a blessing to not be hungry. I am having a harder time keeping track of things now, like protein and calories, as I am eating more diverse items without clear #s, but all seems to be going fairly well, and I continue to lose, so I must be doing soemthing right. Glad to hear it is working so well for you, and keep up the good work!
Oh thank God!!! Someone else like me!!! I use Fitday.com to track my foods. You can enter stuff by ingredient and add your own foods too. for example, I had tuna today....tuna canned+ .5 T lite mayo....entered seperately . it helpsto keep track and gives you accountability for what you put in your mouth.
