Well, I'm home after...

Well, I'm home after 4 days back in the hospital...on Friday night I ate a bite or two of thin mashed potatoes with ground cornish game hen and got that horrible feeling in my chest that felt like heartburn again and after a few minutes it came back up...my first thought was "What did I eat that was red"...then realized I was throwing up blood!! I threw up again and there was a lot more bright red blood and a dark "thingy" about the size of a quarter. Then, I paged my Doc and headed to the ER...They took blood, put in an iv and monitored me all night. Sat morning my Doc came in and ordered an Endoscopy to see what's going on. He said a stricture shouldn't cause me to throw up blood. Had the Endoscopy Sunday morning (they gave me something to kinda make me out of it but I still gagged on the scope and boy I even peed my pants!!!) Anywhoo...first, in my esophagus they found a tear and they believe that was the source of the bleeding (now when I came out of anesthesia from my RNY on 10/23 I fought the tube for over 10 min while they tried to calm me down before they could get it out...they surmise that this injured my esophagus and then the violence of throwing up now caused it to open up and bleed again..then, they found a stricture where my esophagus meets my new pouch (my opening was originally 12mm? and shrunk to 9? So they used 3 different size balloons and reopened it to 12 1/2 mm?? The procedure didn't last more than 1/2 hour then I was in recovery for an hour and back to my room and back on liquids...so I got home about an hour ago and I on liquids for another week before I get to go back to soft food again...I hope this is the only stricutre I get and hope I don't ever see blood when I throw up again... Take care

I am sure you were so scared. I'm glad they were able to repair the damaged areas. Good luck on your recovery.
