Hello, I have posted on several different of the posts here, I had surgery on Oct 3. I am doing well, absolutely no complications. The issues I am having are: I cannot find a protein that does not make me want to barf! I have spent a ton of money on all different kinds. I am worried I am not eating properly. I have been eating a lot of protein, ie, fat free cottage cheese, chicken salad, tuna salad, etc. I am really scared I am not getting enough protein. I have been really good about taking my vitamins, except calcium, which I know is higly important, but separating the calcium and iron, I tend to forget my calcium. I hate the chewable, and I bought some calcium capsules, I just worry about absorbtion, and I rarely get 500 mg, if that much. Also, I bought some Kashi whole wheat lil crackers to eat with my cottage cheese and tuna. Because in my heart, I was always a little scared of the Atkins approach, I feel balance is best. Am I wrong to go with my gut feeling/ 15 crackers are 130 cal and have 3 g protein and 20 g carbs, but I can only get about 7 in before I am full. I am so constipated, I feel that a little fiber cannot hurt. I am loosing weight at a normal post op rate (33 lbs in 4 weeks), but for some reason I am worried that I am not eating how I should. Anyone have any suggestions? thanks!

oh yeah, I have not gotten sick or dumped, and it makes me worry, I know that sounds rediculous, but I see all these fellow members who are sick, and I wonder if I am doing something wrong that I can tolerate everything EXCEPT protein powder or drinks..argh! I even ate a bite of cake to see if I would get sick, the only thing that happened is that it really didn't do for me what it had in the past..didn't really taste good. I do not want to start tempting my body and eating wrong, but I just wonder what is going on and why I can just tolerate..I worry about eating too much. Some of you that are 4 weeks out are barely eating and I am easily eating 3 times a day, in fact I get really hungry right before lunch and dinner. I am not even excercising yet. I so want to be successful, but I really think that I might not be because of these issues. help!

I would not worry. My hubby had surgery June 5 and he has never had dumping or anything and when he had a few of my m&m's nothing happened. Some peole just do not dump. He hated all the protein drinks EXCEPT isopure zero carb. The strawberries and cream. Don;t worry just be careful what you eat make sure you are gettin gin as much protein as you can. He does it sometimes by drinking mild instead of water. I can not wait to be to that point. I am only 5 days out and I am pretty miserable at this point It just came to me that onother person on here could not do protein drinks and her nut told her to have milk with sugar free choc syrup in it instead. You may try that. Best of luck to you and keep your chin up.

Too funny! I feel the same way...I have had almost no problems, other than a little nausea a couple of times, and only from liquids, not from food. I have been eating 3 4 oz meals a day since the day I started on puree. I have had a bite of a cookie, drank through straws, ate soft foods early, accidentally eaten fast...What's wrong with me!!?? lol. For extra protein I drink 4 ozs of carb control slim fast protein shake 2-3 times per day. I used to put it in my decaf instead of cream, but Im done with coffee for now as I think that's what made me sick. They are a bit high in fat and calories (9/190 per 11 oz can) but they have 20 grams of protein. I also purchased the tasteless protein, but have only used it once. It was tasteless, but it did change the texture of my oatmeal, which was fine. I also got a wild cherry flavored powder, which i mix with crystal light, I use a little less than they recommend, otherwise it is too thick. THick water! Ick! If you are truely getting hungry, you should make sure you are getting enough liquids in. Also, I have cut out 2 of my 3 protein shake servings, and due to inconsistent info from my surgeons office, havnt really replaced them with anything, but it doesn't feel like enough.

Hi, I had my surgery on Oct. 23 and have been having some of the same protein problems as you are. I finally came across Unjury Unflavored protein at www.unjury.com. I bought some and am doing fine now. I toss a scoop in soup or Crystal Light or even mashed potatos and don't notice it's there. That way I'm getting my protein and not feeling like I'm going to be ill every time. I hope that helps!

I had my surgery and Oct 9th and was having the same problem with the protein. I have started drinking ISOPURE found at GNC. 2 scoops with 12 ozs of water gives you 50 grams of protein a day. Best of all it dissolves with a spoon and is not lumpy or gritty like a lot. I actually mix mine with 16 ozs of water and take about 2 hours to drink it and that is my breakfast and I'm not hungry until noon. They have chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. The chocolate has 3 carbs and the strawberry and vanillas are zero carbs. It is pretty expensive, but if you pay $15 for the GNC gold card then during the first 7 days of the month you receive a 20% discount which helps alot since ISOPURE runs just over $50. Regarding the calcium my doctor told me to take the citrical "petites" with vitamin D (you don't have to chew them). I hope this helps a little.
