I know this is gross, but does any one remember having this horrible (albeit small) diarrhea. I jsut wonder if anyone else had it or if I should be concerned. Am only 5 days out.

Yes, I did, fully liquid. However, pardon the pun, this too will pass! After you start on full protein,(soft Protein diet), that will change. I am now really constipated. So, hang on..and best of luck to you! Kimberlee

I am only 5 days out and I have not had diareah but have had very strange bm's. Almost like foamy snot (sorry for the graffix) ( just glad someone else frought the subject up) this morning it is different and a semi runny very dark black. Talked to my Mom and she said that is probably blood and my system getting rid of any of the stuff inside from the surgery and to me that makes sense. Let me know how things go. I have not had much of one yet though so I guess only time will tell. Best of luck, Melissa

After I relaxed my body to allow myself to go, thinking it would hurt or something, I started going without a problem but it was very runny and dark. Now I'm on pureed foods and it's becoming more and more solid. Cusi

Dear Mel, Not to frighten you but if you have any other symptoms, abdominal cramping, fever please call your MD. I ended up with colitis/c-diff. A GI infection. I am now on my 3rd round of anitbiotics.. I hope for you that it is not but I just thought you would want to know if it got worse. Tammy

I have been having that problem too. Surgery was lap rny on 10/17. I find it happens after eating cottage cheese, higher fat foods, and certain vitamins. It was so bad I went back to clear liquid and started again. I just added things in one at a time and I knew if it was a problem within an hour. Consider eliminating milk for a couple of days and see if it goes away. If it does, put milk back in and you should have a reaction right away if it is lactose related. Then do the same thing with the others till you find it. Good luck.

Yes, don't feel bad...I am 2 weeks out today and as of Sunday, still had it, although not as bad. I do not advise taking an anti-diarrheal, especially if you also have some excess gas (if you had laproscopic surgery, they probably blew your stomach up with gas) still trying to work it's way out...I took one dose on a Sunday & was unable to let anything out the back end, so wound up having severe gas build up which wound up causing my to have horribly dry heaves (that was on day 6). To encourage you though, it is managable and like others have mentioned, when you start drinking protein again, it will subside. Liquid only in = liquid only out....

Yes, I think diarrhea is normal. I did not have a regular bm for a week or two. I was freaked out at first, because it truely did look like coffee grounds, which I knew was a sign of something bad, but I suppose it is only bad if you havn't just had surgery, as it means there is dried blood. But joy oh joy,,,I used to have chronic diarrhea, and I no longer do. I have had more normal bms in the last 2 weeks than I had in 2 months before surgery. But they look strange...lighter in color. And they float! which supposedly means less fat in my diet. So, enough poo-poo trivia, I suppose. On an even more positive note, I am a month out and I cannot believe how fast the time has gone!! And I feel totally normal! I have freakout moments because I havn't lost anything in the last week, but from what I read on here that is normal at this point. I had lots of worries, concerns, a moment or two of regret, but things are going great and I really feel like I made the right decision, even though it hasn't even really paid off yet. The only thing that bugs me a little is that eating is not really that enjoyable anymore. But I'll take it and I'll get used to it. My biggest fear is that at some point I will feel hungry all the time. Right now I never feel hungry, and I could take or leave food for the most part. Take care!
