4 days out from my surgery and have ?'s
Ok so I know it is probably silly but I am 4 days out (lap RNY on the 30th) and there are still ?'s that I have. I have little to no pain in the hospital. Had a great time. Total opposite form my husband. He spent 4 days and did a ton of throwing up. So is this much gas normal. I can not go long without a monsterous burp. It is so not fun. The rumbling in myh tummy is rediculous. I would think that all the gas would be out by 4 days of this but I guess not. I just now tonight have some pain in my left shoudler. I am wondering if that is normal and the dreaded shoulder pain or if maybe it is a muscle that I am using to get up with and such that I used and have not used in a while. My incisions look pretty good. My drain sight is all closed and on it;s way to healing. The docs in the hospital were very happy with all that. The only one that has me concerned is the one under my left breast. I have a large chest and unless I am sitting just the right way it covers it up andI am worried about that sight now getting enough air. Any one else have this or have any advice. It does not have the same scabbing that the others do. I am just worried it will not heal correctly. Any advise is appreciated. Next I will tacle trying to manage to get all this liquid down with all the gas coming up and then I am supposed to start on cream soups and yogurt and such tomorrow so we will have to wait and see. I know to take is slow so that is what I am going to do. Thank you in advance. Melissa
Melissa,
I had the same problem with the incision but it was under my right breast and at one month out is still not healed but is getting closer. It bleed more than the other incisions but the dr says it looks great. It didn't look like the rest when my steri strips came off. The others were completely closed but that one wasn't. I think that's where the drain tube was placed. My dr had me us peroxide to clean it everyday after my shower and put Neosporin with a bandaide for an additonal 10 days after the steri strips came off. As for gas I was told you would be swollen in your stomach for 6-8 weeks and have gas that long as well. I still don't get all my water in but try and try. I am thirsty but can't get it all in. I love water and would gulp it prior to surgery but can't now.
I have to get in 90 gms of protein in plus eat 3 meals (2oz each) so you don't have much free time to drink water.
I wish you the best of luck. Each day it get better.
